Period: 2 On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy conducted a surprise military strike against the US naval base at Pearl Harbor. The attack came as profound shock to the American people and led directly to the American entry into World War Ⅱ in the Paci c theatre. As statistics shows, in 1938, the population of US was two times larger than Japan. The average industrialization level of US was about three times higher than Japan, not to mention military power and GDP(Gross Domestic Product). So it was unwise for the Japanese to attack
Pearl Harbor.
Veterans who fought in the war of Pearl Harbor and received a Medal of Honor, for their heroic actions of Pearl Harbor is: John William Finn and Samuel Glenn Fuqua. John W. Finn during the first attack by Japanese airplanes on the Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, on 7
December 1941, Lt. Finn was painfully wounded many times, he continued to man his gun and to return the enemy's fire vigorously and with telling effect throughout the enemy strafing and bombing attacks and with complete disregard for his own personal safety. It was only by specific orders that he was persuaded to leave his post to seek medical attention. Although he was suffering much pain and moving with great difficulty, he returned to the squadron area and actively supervised the rearming of returning planes.
