Pearl Harbor is probably one of the greatest known battles in history. It was not really a battle because of the one-sidedness by the Japanese. This slaughtering of Americans was uncalled for. The United States Military knew of the notions of the Japanese long before it occurred. The United States Government just sat around making futile attempts to create peace between the United States and the Japan. The United States did not want to accept the fact that they failed in their talks with the Japanese Government, and thus, were blinded by the fact that Pearl Harbor could and should have been prevented. The first pieces of information that could have helped prevent Pearl Harbor was the sightings of the entire Japanese
fleet leaving Japan, and the people who ignored the idea that the Japanese fleet could ever attack the United States. These people were blinded by a false sense of security because they thought that the United States was one of the strongest forces in the world. The second reason Pearl Harbor could have been prevented or minimized was through the United States' overconfidence and ignoring the 14-part message sent out by the Japanese which depicted the attack that was about to take place. This message set up everything for the attack on Pearl Harbor. The third and final reason Pearl Harbor could have been prevented was through the misinterpretation of the radar system and through people ignoring the mini-sub that was very close to Pearl Harbor. The radar picked up the Japanese planes that were flying in long before the attack ever began and the United States ignored the radar because they believed that it was the bombers that were transferred to Pearl Harbor. The mini-sub was sunk by the ship that spotted it, and after it was reported the United States thought nothing of it. Overconfidence by the United States and the United States ignoring the signs of the attack were the main reasons Pearl Harbor ever occurred. Maybe next time the government will pay more attention to the warning signs placed before them.
