Pedal powered charger
Chapter I
Introduction and Background of the Study
Introduction
One of the major problems of our country is the limited supply of electricity. And as a researcher we created a simple way on how we charge electrical energy from huma/mechanical energy or pedal power with the use of our Bicycle Charger. A Pedal Powered generator provides a method of generating electricity by means of a modified exercise bike for use in energy storage and running portable devices. Human.mechanical energy is converted by a belt-liked cloth to a bike dick brake. The energy created by the DC generator can be stored in various types of lead-acid batteries. Energy stored in battery form can act as a supplemental energy source for battery banks that may already bu used for wind, hydro and photovoltaic systems. Also, energy that is stored within the lead-acid battery can be utilizrd as DC current for use in DC appliances such as those found in automotive mobile homes. If Alternating Current (AC) appliances are in place then an inventer must be used to transfer the 12 volts of DC current into the standard 110 volts of AC current for usage by these appliances. Pedal power is the source of getting energy from humans. It can be described as the transfer of energy generated through the movement of human feet and hands in some cases. Humans used the pedal power to impel bicycles for centuries. In the primeval time all the machinery was manual and required the physocal energy to run them. This use of pedal power proved to be really helpful to perform even hard labor tasks. Pedal power was the base of the industry for many years. The idea of pedal power generators emerged from the wind turbines. Recent trend towards the use of bicycle again has gained great popularity. The report shows that in North America the use of bicycles has increased in recent years. The credit goes to the efforts of the people who provided awareness to the masses about its benefits. Recent trends have also forced

An alternate source of energy that this paper will be covering is wind power. This is not a new discovery but overtime it took a fresh and better tactic. History will reveal that hundreds of years ago, windmills were already use in Europe in wind farms with wind turbines in order to gain as much as wind energy as possible. This is an effective method in producing the maximum wind energy; however, there are pros and cons that one has to be aware with in this kind of alternative source of energy.…

In this lab, we are building and testing a rubber band powered vehicle to work towards energy efficiency. After designing a base structure for the rubber band powered vehicle, we will build it and test it on the floor in school hallway. We will test the distance it traveled in the amount of time that it took for it to get there. Also the capabilities of re-use after many uses of the vehicle.…

Since Readers turn to Popular Science for entertainment and general knowledge, the magazine is limited on how in depth it can go into scientific and technological background information without confusing the reader. This magazine is intended for enjoyment to the general reader, and it shows as the articles are written in an informal tone. The headings are usually short and to the point; for example, headings like “What’s New,” “The Goods,” “FYI (For Your Information),” and “Other Stuff,” all of which are found in the table of contents in the October 2010 issue (6). Other article titles such as “Electro-Moto” on page 28 in the September 2010 issue immediately give the reader a vivid idea of what the article is about, in this case, an electric motorcycle. This allows for the reader to quickly and easily understand the context of the articles. This keeps the general reader interested and allows for informative articles without too much technical detail.…

Inventors found many new ways to harness nature's energy. For the most part, machinery was operated by water and mills. Some machines were powered by steam and coal. These new machines did work faster and cheaper in comparison to hand workers. For example, one machine and one spinning wheel can do the work of 50 workers. However, the…

Ever since the first gas powered vehicle was prototyped in 1886 by Karl Benz, the automobile has been revolutionizing and transforming into bigger and better things. Automobiles have transformed from the clunky build and gas guzzling engine to sports cars and very efficient engines that can get up to 40 miles per gallon. A new type of technology has developed over the recent years and can possibly change the automobile industry for good: electric-driven vehicles. The start of the electric-driven vehicle began with the grandma grocery getter at the store, toy cars, mo-pads, motorized scooters, and wheel chairs. In the early 20th century, battery powered vehicles were very popular until combustion engines took over the industry with the booming…

    Design of a Bicycle Frame

Bicycles, whether they be mountain bikes or just ordinary street cycles, play an important role in society, especially in sport and in general means of transportation. The history of bicycles and their contribution to an economical means of transportation goes as far back as the 19th century. Bicycles have progressed and evolved ever since and ever improving with the introduction of spoked wheels, a chain drive connecting a crank with pedals, pneumatic tires and suspension which brought on massive popularity in the latter part of the 19th century. All of these innovations, ironically, actually lead to a rapid decline in the bicycle industry and this was because early 20th century American automobiles were taking over. Not only was the automobile industry taking over, it was the bicycling craze that brought pneumatic tires, spoked wheels, the manufacturing processes for machining gears and assembling frames that actually paved the way for automobiles to become so cheap and reliable at such a rapid rate. The next great transportation innovation and revolution – aviation, was in many ways a child of the bicycle industry in the sense that most of the early inventors, pilots (steering an early plane was identical to steering a bicycle by leaning into turns) and builders were previously a part of the bicycle industry. For most of the 20th century, America was completely fixated on automobiles and aviation. However, even more ironically, the soaring prices in fuel, an obesity epidemic, as well as more recent manufacturing processes and materials for the automotive and aerospace industries, paved the way for stronger, faster, lighter and cheaper bicycles. The very innovations in the automobile and aerospace industries that nearly wiped out the bicycle industry, eventually led to its revitalization and resurrection.…

Bicycles are also the most energy-efficient vehicle—a cyclist burns about 35 calories per mile (22 calories per km), while an automobile burns 1,860 calories per mile (1,156 calories per km). Bicycles are used not only for transportation, but for fitness, competition, and touring as well. They come in myriad shapes and styles, including racing bikes, all-terrain bikes, and stationary bicycles, as well as unicycles, tricycles, and tandems.…

In the developing world, washing laundry is a difficult, time-consuming task that falls solely on women. Mothers and daughters typically spend 8 hours each week scrubbing each piece of their family's clothing and wringing out the harsh washing solution by hand. Electrical washing machine exists in this developing world but they are too expensive that others cannot afford. It is known to be the fastest way of washing clothes which requires less effort. In some instance, electricity is expensive and unavailable as it does not exist in some rural localities. This investigatory project entitled “Pedal Washchine” is designed to develop an improvised washing machine to lessen the physical burden of women doing laundry by hands. It will lessen the time of washing clothes, conserves energy and is environmental friendly. It is also made out of locally available and dumped materials. This eco-friendly laundry machine is cheaper than the commercial one. This will contribute a lot in electrical energy conservation. Yes, it is made of dumped materials but because of creativity and resourcefulness, we had come up with this useful machine. This machine is environmental friendly because it doesn't require electricity. It can be a double purpose machine which can be a laundry machine and at the same time, exercise equipment while washing clothes. Through this project, the husband can exercise using the pedal of the machine while his wife does the laundry. Kids can also help their mother doing the laundry while riding on it. The kids will surely enjoy it because we have made it just like the usual bike so it is very easy to use. Powered washing machines normally exist but this machine is quite unusual. Running water and electricity are expensive. Some cannot afford to buy washing machines or pay high bills. Our invention is the Pedal Washchine, a low cost, pedal-powered washing machine that is designed with readily available parts. It is easy to…
