What is Pedophilia? Pedophilia is a paraphilia that involves an abnormal interest in children. A paraphilia is a disorder that is characterized by recurrent intense sexual urges and sexually arousing fantasies generally involving: nonhuman objects; the suffering of humiliation of oneself or one’s partner; or animals, children, or other nonconsenting persons. Pedophilia is also a psychosexual disorder in which the fantasy or actual act of engaging in sexual activity with prepubertal children is the preferred or exclusive means of achieving toward children of the same sex or children of the other sex. Pedophiles are only able to function in society sometimes. It is socially taboo to accept a pedophiliac into society; Pedophiles are most often imprisoned. Causes and symptoms of a pedophiliac come from the attraction and vulnerability of children. Pedophiles who are tempted solely by children are more so the Exclusive Type, meaning their exclusion from society. Nine tenths are male and are fascinated by preteen females, teenage males, or sometimes both. However, it is rarer for pedophiles to be attracted to both sexes (“Pedophilia and Fetishism”). Most paraphilic fantasies begin in late childhood or adolescence and continue throughout adult life. The intensity and occurrence of the fantasies are variable, and they usually decrease as people get older (“Pedophilia”). Some pedophiles offer rationalizations or excuses that enable them to avoid assuming responsibility for their actions. The children may be blamed for being too attractive or sexually provocative. The pedophiliac may also say that they are only teaching the child about love (Fleming). To a pedophiliac, a relationship with a child is much more fulfilling to their needs and relationship issues. Sex with children is free and daring; it enhances the pedophile’s magical sense of omnipotence and immunity, making him/her feel

After reading Phillip Jenkins’ article from Nerve.com, I am appalled that there are sick people in this world who actually enjoy “kiddie porn.” I have heard some horrible stories, but nothing quite like what Jenkins has mentioned in his article. Jenkins states, “if sexual fantasies, however grotesque, however unhealthy, can be made illegal, none of us are safe.” Jenkins cites specific examples such as videos of “kindergarten girls masturbating and giving blowjobs to adult men” along with many other examples to help support his thesis.…

Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men between the years of 1978 to 1991 in which he participated in necrophilia, dismemberment and cannibalism (Meyer, 2006). As a child, Dahmer was shy and suffered from low self-esteem. At a young age, Dahmer displayed abnormal behavior starting with the collecting of dead animals and using acid to strip off the meat having necrophilia desires. This escalated in his teen years turning into fantasies of killing and mutilating men. After graduating from high school, he was living alone and the feelings of abandonment returned giving him justification in his mind to commit crimes. Throughout his teens years he abused alcohol, which also lead to abnormal behavior. By the age of 18, his parents divorced leaving him to feel abandoned, lost and rejected. Shortly after, Dahmer committed his first murder of a hitchhiker named Stephen Hicks. Dahmer took Hicks home and killed him by smashing his head and bones when the man wanted to leave (Bardsley, 2008).…

A paraphilia is “a condition in which a person's sexual arousal and gratification depend on fantasizing about and engaging in sexual behavior that is atypical and extreme. A paraphilia can revolve around a particular object (children, animals, underwear) or around a particular act (inflicting pain, exposing oneself). Most paraphilias are far more common in men than in women. The focus of a paraphilia is usually very specific and unchanging”…

One of the main risks of using the internet is that children may be exposed to inappropriate things such as pornography or other illegal or age inappropriate information that encourages activities that are dangerous. There is also the risk of physical danger. This can arise when people use the internet to make contact with children and young people with the intention of developing a relationship which they can progress to sexual activity. This is known as ‘grooming’. Paedophiles will often do this by posing as a young person with similar interests as the intended victim.…

Sexual thoughts pop in and out of most people’s mind, but especially teenagers, and there’s nothing they can do about it. It is normal for teenage boys and girls to experience this, more than ever when they are hitting puberty. The hormones in the body begin to act up and teenagers want to experience other things on their own. Males begin to grow pubic and facial hairs, and their voice starts to deepen, while girls’ breasts begin to develop and their body begins to take shape. After hitting puberty, teenagers are now at the point where they want to experience things. ‚Don’t go out there and get pregnant‛ a mother explains, ‚you’re too young and I don’t think you’re ready to be a mother.‛ Likewise for a father, ‚Don’t get no girl pregnant and have a child you can’t even take care of.‛ However, that’s the only serious conversation parents ever have with their children about serious matters such as adolescence. They do not speak about the deeper things that teenagers need to be informed about and as a result teenagers will have to find out on their own. They will dwell on the things they have learnt, some even begin to have perverted thoughts and most teenagers want to experiment and put them into practice later on in life -- but where are the parents, where are the pastors, the counselors, all the essential people when it comes to issues such as these? Adults want to tell the younger children that sex is wrong at a young age, but don’t go into the deeper things such as masturbation or even internet pornography. The older folks want to say that the younger generation is corrupted, but never have they really sat down with a young man and mention things such as lust of the mind, and the same for girls. Adults are the cause of the perversion in the minds of their own children. Teenagers and even the younger children hear about pornography from their…

Many states have adopted sexual predator statutes which provide for incarceration, institutionalization, treatment, and registration for individuals convicted of specific sex crimes (Roberson and Wallace, 2008). The need for convicting sexual predators has become a top priority for lawmakers across the nation as society has determined that sexually related offenses are deviant behavior and simply will not be tolerated. Sexually related offenses such as rape, child molestation, and pedophilia are considered to be especially heinous offenses and tend to bring about disgust and rage from within our society. In response to such offenses, lawmakers across the nation, along with the assistance of law enforcement and its citizens, have made life very uncomfortable for sexual predators. Specifically, lawmakers have created new laws which restrict the freedoms of sexual predators and that inflict harsher punishments for those convicted of sex crimes.…

Three types of pedophiles are the personally immature pedophile, the regressive pedophile, and the aggressive pedophile. The personally immature pedophile lacks or has not properly developed social skills at an adult level. This leaves them unable to have a sexually intimate partnership with someone their own age. This is the most common type of pedophile. This type of pedophile seeks control that is more easily found in a…

In today’s day and age, it is nearly impossible for kids to not have exposure to sexuality or the sexualization of objects/people in the media. In this scenario painted by my professors, I am older and I have a child that has gone to a sleepover with sexually active teenagers. As dreadful as it may seem and biologically impossible, I would assure my child that the emotions she is feeling are 100% normal for people their age. These feelings they are experiencing can be driven by hormones which are developing at their age.…
