Peer Interview

Interviewee: Richard Luttrull
How old are you?
I am 16 years old.
Richard how would you describe your personality?
I would describe myself as mellow and laidback because I always stay to myself. I’ve attended Port Allen High before but I just recently transferred from Brusly High and people don’t seem as friendly anymore.
What are your opinions about the school, both positive and negative?
Well, I think that the disciplinary consequences that are put in place are better than they have ever been. That’s because it’s not as much confusion and drama. The teachers also have great teaching tactics. However, the lunch is disgusting and at times teachers are very disrespectful.

I would take it away because it’s uncomfortable and I dislike the strict dress code. I also think that people should be able to express themselves through other clothing but not provocative.
Richard what about the less fortunate? Don’t you think that taking uniform out of school will cause more bullying. Bullying to the people who can’t afford what others can afford.
I think that when that time comes for those people then they should handle that situation the best they can. Also isn’t that’s where the NO BULLYING policy comes into play? I just think that others shouldn’t have to suffer for some peoples disadvantages.
Throughout the 2013-2014 school years what would you say were your strengths and weaknesses?
I would say Civics class was my strength throughout the school year because of Coach Richards’s teaching method. Coach Richard’s class is very laidback however; it’s a great learning environment. Another strength I would consider is my change in attitude. I’ve come a long way; I care more about others than myself. My weakness was Algebra1. I chose this class because I could never catch on to anything we used to do in class. My teacher knew the information but could not teach it the right way, she was never consistent with her teaching

School uniforms, are they a burden to families in the United States, or are they preventing students form the hardships of being bullied? In a case of a low income family, uniforms are a better choice. Uniforms not only keep a school in order and prevent provocative clothing, but hide a student’s backgrounds from being manipulated by everyday bullies. School uniforms should be enforced in several schools because they teach students professionalism, will encourage teamwork and success in school, and prevent sexual harassment in schools and at home.…

“The four largest school expenses- across both primary and secondary school-are school meals, trips, uniform and PE kit expenses” (Farthing, 2010, p.242). Families also find it a burden to be able to afford the newest and most fashionable school uniforms. An argument could be that parents are not forced to purchase the most expensive uniforms since schools also offer cheaper versions. “Anxious parents often spend a week’s wages on uniform costs to ensure their children are not bullied or disciplined” (Farthing, 2010, p.244). Bullying is not a new concept in school, and even by mandating uniforms, it will not fix the issue when even the uniforms are different for low income families.…

As I arrive at school, I hear girls behind me say, “Do you see what she is wearing, ew?” Everyday, I am bullied because of my attire. Because of the low income in my family, I do not always wear the most “stylish” outfits. Clothing type is one of the leading causes of bullying. Dorothy Espelage, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, says she has seen an increase in "bullying related to clothes.” I believe schools need to impose school uniforms. If school uniforms were enforced, equality would be promoted to all students. Also, the uniforms would not be distracting or flashy.…

I went to the school thinking that the kids were going to be all over the place, but I was wrong. The teachers are friendly and they allow the children to learn on their own. I never been to a preschool or around younger kids that act as well as this class did. The kids know their colors, number, cooperate with peers, know how to read, etc.…

Because society is incredibly materialistic and money is a power issue, the judgments that are made on how someone appears become a main cause of bullying. Mandatory school uniforms would eliminate this problem and allow students to be judged on personality, not just what they wear. Bullying in general is malevolent; it is not only an unnecessary barrier to learning, but has the potential to make students’ lives unbearable. This sort of torment may not be terminated, but it would surely be reduced with mandatory uniforms. With the new HIB (harassment, intimidation and bullying) laws that Governor…

Just thinking about bullies and kids that are getting bullied, actually makes me so heartbroken and grief-stricken! I really don’t understand why kids have to bully other kids. I honestly can not take it. It literally happens everywhere too! It happens at schools, public areas, at home, at work, etc.. It's even happening at this very moment, and it breaks my heart that there is a kid that’s getting picked on because of their race, color, sex, or religion. They were made like that. Their race, color, sex or religion wasn’t their decision. God made them like that, so you should never pick on someone for something that they cant help. It makes me so sad. I, myself has been a victim of bullying a few times in the last three years or so now, and it actually hasn’t really stopped. I had made a decision to move away from a small town that I used to live in for five years because I was getting bullied so frequently at school from girls that are two and three years older than me. it really sucks because I had to leave some of my friends that live there just because of some girls that apparently "had" to bully me and make me feel bad about myself. Lots and lots of teenagers, and I am talking millions, have done bad things their selves from bullying, which include cutting(especially on the wrists), starving their selves, and…

One of the reasons that school uniforms should not be allowed in schools because they are not cost effective. One reason why they are not cost effective is because some families cannot afford multiple uniforms, plus the clothes that students wear outside of school (Pakhare 1). Unlike the students who can afford three, four, or five uniforms, the poorer students’ one uniform will look worn out and used by mid-semester compared to everyone else (Stainburn 1). It will be easier to pick out the kids who cannot afford much. The social boundaries that uniforms were trying to get rid of will still occur with or without them (Cruz 47). The second reason behind why school…

    2. Some of my greatest strengths are constantly revising my writing pieces. I am always looking for ways to improve my writing and I like to take the time I need to make sure that it is my best work. When it comes to weaknesses though, I struggle with understanding the reading. It takes me a few times before I am able to finally realizing what it is all saying. Articles tend to bore me which makes me lose focus and it causes me to have to reread things a lot. So I tend to go a lot slower than most, but I still get things done. One thing that seemed to help me in Micah’s class was going over people’s work in class. Also, looking at different examples from past classes. It made it to where I felt like I was on track and really had a strong understanding of what was expected of me for the assignment.…
