Peer Pressure

A certain degree of social influence is useful - perhaps even vital - to the functioning of society. Concepts like shame are powerful deterrents against people just doing whatever the hell they felt like, regardless of the harm done to other people or harm done to their relationships with other people.
On the other hand, social influence can lead you to do bad things as much as good things - e.g. your friends are all gangsters and you agree to rob a store with them so you're in the in-group. And shame isn't the only way to control people's behaviour; fear of punishment and the inculcation of moral values work too.
In short, I don't see a clear-cut answer for this question.
In practical terms, peer pressure is becoming less influential in recent decades, as everyone is learning that it's acceptable, or even admirable, to rebel against culture and against authority, and "diversity" and "tolerance" have become universal keywords. I see that as a good thing; most human societies were and still are far more restrictive than they really need to be. more than 2200 students each year suicide due to peer pressure....over 14% of college students have considered suicide and 7% of them have attempted it!! by the age of 14 20% of them have tried their first cigar and 66% of them their first alcohol.peer pressure is becoming a serious issue and it should be solved.
Definitely peer pressure is harmful. It keeps one from doing the right thing, because the right thing is often not the most popular. It keeps one from becoming an individual with views and opinions that differ from society, thus killing diversity and individuality. To conform the only choice for so many too weak to stand alone.
Most of the time, yes, but suppose it depends on what the person is being pressured into... pressured into getting better grades, not so bad... pressured into doing drugs, bad.
THE PEER PRESSURE IS HARMFULL BECAUSE IT CHACHE THE MANS\CHILDRENS ALTITUDE,VALUE,BEHAVEIR. EXACTLY WHEN THE MEN IS FORMLY A MEMBER OF (POLYTICAL PARTY,TRADE UNION). AND IT MAKE THE MEN\CHILDRENS MIND AS TO USE DRUKS AND ALCAHOL ect yes it's very harmfull some children think that they will score more in exams but if the cant they went to depression and sometimes they sucside this is so harm full because for eg :"one monkey jump from a tree (it died)"

Is existence of peer pressure healthy?
Yes, it teaches people to ignore other people and tell them to fuck off ;)
That will always depend on the individual. A weak minded kid will surely not think much anyway, while a strong minded and smart kid can grow aware of how he may be acting against his own will.
Although, I think peer pressure may also create some mentality problems on some kids.
Peer pressure just keeps people from thinking for themselves.
