Most people know what a penguin is, or they think they do. A Penguin is an awarded bird that lives in the Antarctic and always seems to be dressed for a formal event, or maybe he looks like a nutty little professor The Macaroni penguin my personal favorite. Actually, there is more to the penguin than we could ever realize. To give you a good understanding of the penguin, I will tell you three areas about them, The Habitat an Anatomy of the Penguin, How some are close to being endangered and finally how they have made several appearances in Popular Culture
I. The Habitat and Anatomy of the penguin
A. All Penguins reside within the southern Hemisphere.
1. Penguins are able to live in the coldest parts of the world.
2. Others live very close to the equator where it is very warm.
B. Depending on which species of penguin you are looking at you may find them fascinating to look at or somewhat silly.
1. The body of a penguin is tapered on both ends, this allows them to glide through the water with ease.
2. This is also why tails of penguins look like a wedge, it helps them to navigate in the water.
II. Some Reasons why some penguins are being put on the endangered list.
A. In 2006 the center for Biological Diversity filed a petition to list 12 penguin species, including the emperor penguin as a threated or endangered.
