ANALYSIS: The meeting was an information session for residents living in Mahwah, Allendale, Oakland, and Ridgefield to understand the history and current status of the Municipal Pipeline Group (MPG). The Municipal Pipeline Group was started by Mahwah Council members after town residents raised awareness of the Pilgrim Pipeline Project. After drafting and approving both a resolution and ordinance, town officials in Mahwah decided to contact neighboring towns and cities who would also be impacted by Pilgrim Pipeline. In order to fight a potential legal battle, the Municipal Pipeline Group was created with each town/city contributing $5,000.…
The Keystone Pipeline is a pipeline system that holds oil and it runs through the United States and Canada. More specifically, it starts in Alberta, Canada at the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and travels to oil refineries in Texas and Illinois as well as oil tank farms and an oil pipeline distribution center located in Cushing, Oklahoma. The Keystone Pipeline consists of three phases as well as one more operation that was awaiting approval but has been rejected. The first phase is the pipeline bringing the oil from Hardisty, Alberta to a connection in Steele City, Nebraska which then disperses into refineries in Illinois. The second phase is an extension that leads from Steele City to distribution and storage facilities…
I am representing a group of citizens from the Village of Howard City concerning the lead levels in the drinking water supplied by the city’s municipal water system. I am writing you because we are here requiring some changes to the water system to lower the lead levels to the proper requirements and samples for testing to assure the village is adhering to the Federal Code of Regulations (C.F.R.).…
One of the main issues is wildlife and how they will react to the pipeline. The pipeline runs through areas such as Kendall Island Migration Bird Sanctuary and other unprotected, but…
This week for PLN I read Dakota Access Pipeline: What's at stake? by Holly Yang. Why this topic is blowing up is because where Native American tribes live the government approved a pipeline to be built and where the pipeline is going to be constructed invades the native American's land. Some background of the Dakota Pipeline is it is a 1,172-mile pipeline would stretch from the oil-rich Bakken Formation to the southeast into South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois. The Army Corps of Engineers approved the project then Standing Rock Sioux tribe sued the Corps because it would threaten the tribe environmentally and economically. Some people are arguing that they need the pipeline because it will be an economic boom but on the other hand, people are…
Before one can form an opinion on whether the Keystone Pipeline should or should not be built, they should first know what it is, and hear both sides of the argument.…
The Keystone Pipeline, also known as Keystone XL, is a 1,179-mile-long pipeline from oil fields in Western Canada to the Midwestern United States. Specifically, this pipeline will extend from Alberta, Canada to Steele City, Nebraska with plans to link to an existing pipeline that reaches to the Gulf Coast. Despite the advantages this pipeline will produce, it will also create various negative effects regarding wildlife and inhabitants of these areas, economic and political issues, as well as challenge government policies and regulations.…
In my opinion, authorizing the Keystone XL pipeline would be damaging to the environment. Displace residents from their home or property if it obstructs the construction of the pipeline. And lastly, will only cause a short term economic benefit to the working class who seek long term employment not a seasonal position.…
There are many controversies on the North Dakota pipeline, on whether or not it should be built. So should it rebuilt? Here are some reasons on why there are so many controversies. The Government wants to build on indian reservations, the risk of the pipeline breaking, and the possible jobs to build it.…
The Keystone XL pipeline is a possible opportunity for the United States to bring oil to the country without relying on the Middle Eastern countries. The construction of this pipeline would be in response to strong demand of crude oil in out Gulf Coast region, as a result of declining oil feeds from foreign countries. The process of approving the pipeline, beginning in 2008, has been very controversial. Those who approve of the pipeline tend to focus on its economic benefits, while those who oppose it are focusing on the ways it can be detrimental to our environment. TransCanada is the corporation who wants to build the pipeline, they are resposible for building and developing safe energy infrastructires thorughout North America. In addition to importing crude oil from Canada, TransCanada believes, “the Keystone XL Pipeline will also support the significant growth of crude oil production in the United States from producers in the Bakken region of Montana and North Dakota” (“About the”). The process for constructing this pipeline has been a long road, for both sides of the issue. The application was first submitted and…
The Dakota Access Pipeline should have been stopped because the Sioux tribes have rights, the pipeline could damage the environment, and the government should care about the people’s complaints. It was wrong of the government to deny the rights of the Sioux tribes. Now, seeing how bad this project was, would you let the government deny your rights, threaten to harm your land, and threaten your primary source of water? Or would you fight for what is…
Keystone XL pipeline will be great for United States economy because it will bring more taxes to government from oil companies and public. However, the effect on the environment, economy and residents of America are destructive. The things through which people and environment will be affected are: Water, forest destruction, disease.…
You are responsible for promoting awareness on the issues and problems connected with the subject you’ve chosen and you’re looking for the City Council to approve some actions your committee wants to make to either resolve an issue or solve a problem.…
According to Smith, et. al (2010), it is important for community and local governments to…
For example, let’s look at a fictitious rural community facing a particular environmental situation. The federal public land manager in charge of a watershed surrounding the small, rural community of Cottonwood Creek brings a partnership of local stakeholders together worried about the namesake stream that flowed through their town of 4,000 people. The meeting includes representatives from the power generation plant, military installation and farmers upstream, wildlife biologists and recreation specialists from the state and county park systems, and business and civic leaders from the region. Other citizens show up, not yet convinced there is a need for action because they don’t trust government.…
