Hello, my name is Grant Markley, and today I would like to take a few minutes of your time to discuss the affordable healthcare act, better known as obamacare. There is a great deal of misinformation regarding the act, which has lead to many misconceptions of it. In this speech I intend to shed light on the act and its provisions in relation to our current healthcare system.
Give us your tired, your hungry, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Those few powerful words perfectly embody the belief that America is a land of opportunity, where all are welcome, all are equal, and all are united in the pursuit of the American dream. However today, when all sects and creeds’ civil and human rights are furiously defended, the poor and the sick of this country have been abandoned by the American dream. Our Nation has programs to help less fortunate families, ex-criminals and the unemployed, we have fire and police departments to serve and protect, social security to help the old and disabled, but if you are one of the 44 million uninsured Americans there is currently no help for you. Throughout my speech several issues with healthcare reform will be discussed including constitutional legality, financial aspects, bureaucracy, and morality. Several sources will be cited in order to back up the statistics and properties of the healthcare act, most of which are provided by several media and governmental websites.
