Perception In Brene Brown's TED Talk
In this TED Talk video, Brene Brown, an author and public speaker, shared with us a topic about Perception. She began to research further into this topic and discovered that there was more to it than what was being said. Brown says that she discovered the meaning of connections. Being a social worker, she needed to understand the purpose of our lives. An interesting fact she found was that we like to feel like we are connected or bonded with something or someone. While we definitely need this emotional connection, Brooke made a deeper research and came up with the opposite of what she had initially discovered. She listed insecurities, our disadvantages and our shame. This all came down to our vulnerabilities.
The word vulnerable means being exposed physically or emotionally from harm. When I think of the word vulnerability, I think of all of my fears and those fears turning into reality. I become vulnerable because I do not know how to handle or process my fears, It all comes down to being scared. For example,

Or, to join a group in which we felt we found similarities or likes or dislikes. Children don’t think about what other people say about them, they just want to make friends and have fun. As we grow other, we start to realize what will make us more likable. We all want to be talked about nicely, we want others to feel like they can make a connection with them because we have a couple of things in common. In this article, Making Friends with Fear Series: Fear of Not Belonging, a women named Kylie Patchett, a mindset coach for women entrepreneurs, says “ Often, the fear of not belonging almost subdues part of ourselves – similar to what we were talking about in the first part”. This shows that we start changing our opinions, physical looks, our mentality to correspond to those around us. We fear that if we say what we actually mean, then other will think we are wrong and call us out on it or challenge

    Throughout our lives, everyone that we share bonds with and interact with on a regular basis, either forms or has some sort of influence on our identity.     In our social life, each person has one’s own roles and responsibilities, attitudes and values. Since every individual is unique and distinct compared to one another, these elements that construct our individuality are not always similar. Similarities and reflection of our values make us belong to a group, but the differences are barriers that stop ourselves from being recognized as an indivisible part of it. Belonging and identity are inseparable; nonetheless, there are distinctions that create a world of difference between the two. Belonging is not only about to whom we incorporate ourselves the way we perceive it, but also how others recognize our relationship with that group. Therefore, it can be forged; since we can control our approach to a group, we are able direct the people’s opinion about ourselves. This is because most people observe only what is visible and that is our belonging. Our absolute and real identity remains imperceptible; this is because it is not only about how others recognize us, but also how we identify ourselves as complete individuals. Sometimes belonging comes undesirably and not few deny their relationships with groups which they are born to belong. Even when one’s relationship is not genuine it can still create an impression of belonging, at least for those who are unable to perceive the integrity of that connection. From this pseudo-notion our roles and responsibilities emerge; at this point, belonging and recognition (both personally and socially) dissolve although not completely combine, into a single entity that fits in a considerable part of the identity puzzle as a whole.
