Guillermo del Toro’s 2006 film Pan’s Labyrinth is about a little girl, Ofelia, who moves with her mother to live with her new stepfather, Captain Vidal. Ofelia comes to learn that she is princess of the Underworld and, with the help from faeries, must complete magical tasks in order to escape Earth and her cruel stepfather and return to her throne in the mystical world (Pan’s Labyrinth). Del Toro’s main purpose of this film is to parallel the monsters and tasks Ofelia must overcome to fascist 1940s Spain (Kermode). However, with deeper analysis, the monsters may also represent universal societal issues such as mistreatment of the poor by the wealthy, the premature death of childhood innocence and wonder, and abuse. Del Toro’s monsters in Pan’s…
We are introduced to Perseus “Percy” Jackson, a seemingly boring kid, with dyslexia and troubles making friends. An argument could be made that the first call was in the museum when he was attacked by the Fury, telling him to confess. Not a literal call, but rather a sign by fate that something is happening, the first touch of Percy with the world of the gods. The literal call to adventure of the story is at a rather late part, Percy was already part of Camp Half-blood, and his father, Poseidon, had already claimed him. I mean, the title of the chapter is literally “I Am Offered a Quest”. Not really much to explain there.…

Percy Jackson is the main protagonist of the last Olympian. Percy isn’t greed at because he turned down god hood. “Oh, not you although I suppose I should wonder turning down immorality” (Riordan, 355) after defeating Kronos he was given a offer to be a god. He is also funny “With great power... comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later”. Making funny remark and one liner makes him a funny character in general, this funny one liner was said after he obtained the curse of Achilles and they were outside the underworld. Percy is also caring for his friends and he would do anything to protect them. "You're cute when you get worried; your eyebrows get all scrunched together."(Riordan, 199) this was after Percy’s friend Annabeth was fatally…
Percy Jackson has to go through the Road of Trials, The road of trials confronts you with takes or challenges. Percy has to face many characters on his road to fix the gods. Percy fights medusa, cerberus, luke and others to get what he has came for, Poseidon's Bolt. His ability to continually beat and out fight opponents allows the Road of Trials to be noticed and to form. The hero takes him to Saint Louis, Las Vegas and back to NYC where he is met by his father. Saint Louis contains a needed pearl so does Las Vegas. This is called the Night or Sea Journey. The novel guides Percy around the United States so he can accomplish his goal. The Dragon Battle is not literally a dragon with a battle but a battle with a power that is clearly stronger than the hero. In the case of the Lightning Thief, Percy fights a Hades. Hades was the one who took the lightning bolt from poseidon and stirred all this mess. Lastly the Sacred Marriage comes into play. Even Though scared marriage can be a literal marriage, for Percy, it's not. As the story goes along Percy grows a strong emotional bond with his friend Annabelle. Percy allows this bond to continue to grow and uses it to his advantage at times. The Fulfilment, or part two of the Hero's Journey adds good plot to the…

In “The Loss of the Creature,” Percy focuses on how one perceives something before actually witnessing it based on the opinions of others. The value of the place or idea is already preconceived due to the fact that we are so caught up in time that we overlook the entire experience as a whole. Or being that we are so focused on the option on an object from someone else, we miss the whole concept or what it’s true meaning or “beauty” as Percy state’s is. We lose the ability to make our own decisions because we base them off of someone else’s viewpoints. Using an example of a movie that I experienced shows Percy’s point.…

References to Greek mythology pervade much of popular Western culture, and although some allusions may go unnoticed for those without a background in mythology. The study of classical mythology is not a standardized, widespread component of education, and thus there is a gap in understanding of these references for many people. One book that sought to popularize Greek mythology amongst young students was Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, which topped the children’s bestsellers lists just under ten years ago. Percy Jackson, a teenager living in New York City, is the protagonist in this novel and embodies the Greek hero Perseus in his relationship with his mother and the quest on which he embarks. While any competent reader can understand the…

Percy can be funny sometime like when he said " hay! over here ground beef" I thought that was pretty funny. And Percy is also kinda confused about a lot of things he doesn't know what he's doing in the camp half blood or who his father is.…
