Perdue Experience Essay
As an inspiring pharmacy major, I want to engage with hands-on research opportunities at Purdue, especially its IPPH and MCMP research. I appreciate how Purdue is constantly evolving to meet the needs of its students by constantly redesigning its courses to improve student’s learning outcomes. Not only will Perdue help me develop skills relevant to my major, but it will also give me an outlet to express my interest in subjects such as Harry Potter and martial arts. Organizations such as Quidditch and Judo will enable me have fun and create my own unique Perdue experience.

Following, students engaged in an internship breakout session with Dr. Beaupre and PPP Alumni Adam Clark. It is highly encouraged that in the summer between the end of their sophomore year and the fall semester of their junior year, students take on internships, whether that be locally in Cincinnati, back in their hometowns, or in the nation’s capital Washington D.C. The sophomores found this session particularly beneficial because it got students thinking about their summer plans, while allowing them to brainstorm the types of internships that best fit their skills, values, and varying interests.…

My interest in pharmacy school did not happen overnight, but it was a process of learning and discovering. At the age of 30 with a son, a family, and a full-time job, I decided to go back to school and do something entirely different from my previous degree*. Intrigued by the science behind medicine, fascinated by the mechanism of drugs, and motivated by the prestige and rewarding profession of a health care professional, I have chosen medical field to restart my career. I wanted to be a medical doctor, a dentist, or a pharmacist, so I majored in Chemistry.…

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been living under the influence of something more potent than alcohol or drugs and it’s been addicting! As a third culture kid I’ve been raised “under the influence” of varying cultures for my entire life and have had some tremendous life experiences such as watching volcano ash fall from the sky after an eruption and listening to the call to prayer of different religions in several countries. My nonconventional upbringing has shaped who I am and will continue to do so.…

Growing up in an Iranian household and living in a highly diverse area, I am driven to continue to learn and experience different people, cultures, communities and areas of study. Also, I played sports throughout my life and played football until my sophomore year of college. Being diverse, living in a diverse area and developing qualities of discipline, hard work and determination from football, I am fearless to go beyond my comfort zone to learn and work with groups to positively impact individuals and communities around me. In the summer of 2014, I volunteered at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. At first, I was practicing pipetting, learning about microscopes, recording data and helping scientists and doctors retrieve tools and materials.…

Just as the AP course positively impacted me, with the assistance of the Woodford R. Porter Scholarship, I know I can have the same impact on the University of Louisville community. At the University of Louisville, I hope to earn my degree in chemical engineering. I do understand that this degree requires a lot of knowledge about mathematics. Because I was able to overcome difficult academic situations in high schools, I know I am better prepared to deal with these challenges in college. Furthermore, my experiences of struggling in my AP courses have helped me become more sympathetic to my peers. If I see one of my peers struggling, I will provide assistance to them because I know how hard it is to ask for help. By working with my peers, we can ultimately develop a friendship inside and outside the classroom. By developing these relationships, we can learn from one another. While I cannot change my peers’ perspectives about certain issues, I can introduce them to a new perspective, my perspective. By introducing my peers to my perspective, I have helped them become more self-aware as they can do the same for me. In essence, by attending the University of Louisville, I know I can uphold the University’s mission by improving my peers’ lives by sharing my own lived experiences in classrooms. By sharing my narrative and experiences, I know I will create a more diverse…

I believe Margaret Drabble’s statement, “Our desire to conform is greater than our respect for objective facts,” to be quite true. Throughout history, people of all ages have wanted to be accepted and belong to a group rather than look at the facts and measure what is true and false. It is very evident in our society today that not only do we want to be accepted and belong, but we also are willing to do whatever it takes, no matter what the consequences turn out to be. I agree with Drabble’s statement and believe that it is true all around the world. If you were to step outside our society and look back at it objectively, I can assure you that you would see evidence of this.…

I want to be part of the Biological Basis of Behavior program to continue my passion about neuroscience and the human brain, but be able to cross campus to meet with my theater group and explore my other interests. I want the opportunity to do cutting-edge research through Penn’s emphasized research programs, like the Vagelos program, then join my friends the next Saturday afternoon in the stands as we throw toast to show our unwavering support for our Quakers. I want to think across academic lines, instead of having to pick just one interest. I want to be a building block in a supportive community. I want to collaborate with my peers and learn alongside students who will help me grow stronger and to strengthen them as well. I want to try new things and make mistakes. I want to learn about the world in a way that is not just limited to a college degree. I want to experience, I want to feel, I want to understand. I want to shout about my craziest, most far-fetched dreams, that I want to cure cancer and save the world, and I want to be told that they’re still valid and that here, at Penn, I can accomplish…

1 In the essay "A Brother's Murder," Brent Staples writes about his younger brother, Blake, who took a very different path in life than Staples did. 2 The essay starts with a phone call in which Staples learns that Blake has been murdered, shot six times by a former friend (517). The essay goes on to tell about the conditions in which Blake grew up. The neighborhood in which the brothers lived was violent, and young men grew into dangerous adults. Staples recalls a conversation he overheard there between two Vietnam veterans, in which one of them said how much he preferred to fight with young men from the inner city, who wear "their manhood on their sleeves." They weren't afraid to fight, believing that violence proved they were real men (518).…

My clinical nursing experience at Chestnut Hill has had a profound impact on my academic and professional journey in nursing. As a nursing student in an accelerated program, I am consistently saturated with a host of medical and nursing care knowledge. In a very short period of time, this information must be absorbed and retained. Consequently, I have found it very difficult to bridge the academic realm of this program with my clinical experience until now. For example, if I am assigned to a patient with hepatitis, it has been difficult for me to recall all of the complications, sign and symptom, treatment options, teaching education and much more. Within this rotation, I have begun to form the vital bridge between what is taught in…
