Perfect World Persuasive Research Paper
Imagine having to live in a world where your own decisions are chosen for you by your society. Anywhere ranging from your own spouse and practically your entire family to your job is all chosen for you. On top of all of that, your emotions are completely concealed, all your memories are taken away, and there is no way out of this ludicrous location other than being ‘released’ which is a more pleasant way of saying committing suicide. Does that sound like a perfect world to you? Utopias are generally communities/societies made so that all of the troubles of the real world disappear, only leaving behind a so called ‘Perfect World’. A utopia isn’t possible, a perfect world cannot sincerely be accomplished because there is no such thing as a perfect world. Over the course of history, several attempts at establishing a utopia were made and quite frankly, most of them quickly escalated into a dystopia due to the flaws and decisions throughout their society's system. In some cases, the problem could also be the fact that society becomes so bland and pointless up until the point where it just dies off. In the article, “The Seeds of their own Destruction” it emphasizes: “The Shakers and Harmonists were very successful economically, and bound tightly in a common spirituality. However, their way of keeping a lid on worldly desires was to practice celibacy. Now, anyone who has raised children knows what a resource drain they can be, and would not be surprised that communities without offspring could get ahead financially. Nevertheless, the celibate life had only so much appeal, and these sects eventually died off.” Meaning that the Shakers and Harmonists community were successful and bound tightly through their common interests in religious beliefs until they were told not that they were not allowed to have children because they wanted to stay financially ahead of others. However, as successful as this utopia may seem, people of this community began to feel like this restriction only had so much appeal so the religious groups eventually died off due to this
