Recently the NRL has been cracking down on random drug testing and is implementing certain measures to make sure players are educated about drugs and it is no longer up to the club to test for drugs. These new measures introduce an Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) program, a new test method developed during the London Olympics to detect Human Growth Hormone. An ABP is an electronic record of an athlete's biological values that is developed over time from multiple collections of blood and urine samples, it aims to identify enhancement of oxygen transport or any other form of blood transfusion or manipulation. It makes sure players and clubs are unaware of the timing of the tests and cannot prepare for them.
