About the author
Patrick Suskind was born 26.03.1949 in Ambahe in Lake Starnberg, Germany. After school and alternative service in the army, Suskind began to teach history in Munich and earn money on any falling under the hands of the works. There he improved their knowledge French language and French culture.
It has been said that he originally aspired to be a concert pianist but had some problem with his hands, so he earned money writing screenplays. Süskind began his writing career as a playwright. His first play (with international success), The Double Bass (Der Kontrabass) was performed in Germany, Switzerland, Scotland, London, and New York. Five years later with "Perfume" Suskind comes to global success. This novel finally made Suskind in 1985, one of the most famous writers of modern German literature. Patrick Suskind is equally successful as a playwright, novelist and author scenarios. His (anti-) heroes have one thing in common, namely, the difficulty to find their place in the world and in communion with other people. They are "special", which is dangerous from perceived world prefer to hide in small rooms.
His fictional works, though differing in voice from each other, contain playful and even flippant "revisions of important philosophical and psychological problems" (Adams, "Patrick Suskind"). He is known for having put in his fiction recognizable barbs directed at critics.
