A wallflower is a person who is different, in a good way. Someone who doesn't really fit in or go with the crowd. In the story, Charlie doesn't really fit in so he makes friends with upperclassmen and hangs out with them instead. This book shows the perks of being different and meeting new people, hence the title The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
I think the main idea of this novel is that you need to have your own experiences, mistakes and choices to become the person that you are. Charlie goes through a lot during the story and learns a lot from his older friends, which helps him a lot in the long run. Charlie is called a wallflower, but I think that is okay for him as long as he is happy.
The part of the story that I thought was most exciting was when Charlie got to go to a Christmas party and exchange his gifts with friends. During the chapter he was discussing how thrilled he was to give the presents away that when he did finally get to share those presents it felt like you could personally share that excitement with him. The party and the presents were all very thoughtful which made me feel the story close to
