The creation and application of new knowledge within organization is essential to the survival of almost all businesses. For sometimes now I have been asking myself, does knowledge & information sharing practice exist in Namibian organizations? Do Namibian companies, business &
Government institutions aware or knows that knowledge sharing is the most important asset & practice in any organization’s performance and developments? It is a pity how most organizations are spending large sums of money to capture & disseminate their stores of knowledge & a significant numbers are not getting the full value of their investment because members of organization may be using the wrong knowledge for their tasks and end up see their performances suffer rather than improve.
Knowledge sharing is an activity through which information, skills or expertise is exchanged among people or an organization. I wonder if our organizations have recognized that knowledge constitutes a valuable intangible asset for creating and sustaining competitive advantages. The type of knowledge that is shared is likely to influence the success/ failure of knowledge sharing effort. Many people do not realize how usefulness of information they have to others.
The sharing of knowledge constitutes a major challenge in the field of knowledge management because some employees tend to resist sharing their knowledge with the rest of the organization. One prominent obstacle is the notion that knowledge is property and ownership thus very important. Mhhhh, they call it “knowledge is power”. This so- called old paradigm make people selfish, they don’t want to give what they have to others because they are afraid that someone can gain more. Apparently there is a competition in the market and everyone wants to be competitive. Individuals are keeping information to themselves and the fact that they know they don’t want to lose
