Change is a hard concept for anyone to grasp, especially an 18 year old girl who was used to the world being in her favor. After graduating high school, I started my road to success at Herkimer County Community College. While at Herkimer I was forced to do a lot of growing up and was forced to make many changes to be able to live happily independent. Thankfully, I had the ambition to do so and now I’m ready to continue on my journey at SUNY . Ever since I was a little girl I have always been ambitious. I believe you get out of life what you put in and it is important to strive for excellence. It is also important to set goals and never stop until you achieve them. Growing up with two very influential parents who gave me all the leadership skills and confidence I have needed to strive for my main goal in life has been the greatest blessing possible. Being a leader is also important not only for yourself but for society. A leader doesn’t only stand up for themselves but for others and what is right. A leader has high self esteem and an overall positive attitude about life. As a leader it is important to be passionate about your beliefs. One personal belief I feel strongly about is equality for all under the laws of The United States. Having aspirations to be a lawyer has come so naturally to me since I could remember. I believe everyone deserves to be treated equally regardless of race, color, sex, age, handicap, marital status, and income.
While at Herkimer County Community College I studied to get my associates in Paralegal. Although my main goal is to become a lawyer I believed this would be a good first step. Since I’ve been at Herkimer I’ve had a rising GPA. After my first semester of only having a 3.1 GPA, my second semester I made Dean’s List and my third semester I made Presidents List with a 3.8. These two accomplishments have been well earned and I’m very proud of myself. I was also accepted into the Honors Program my last semester at Herkimer.

As a third culture kid I’ve been raised “under the influence” of varying cultures for my entire life and have had some tremendous life experiences such as watching volcano ash fall from the sky after an eruption and listening to the call to prayer of different religions in several countries. I believe Margaret Drabble’s statement, “Our desire to conform is greater than our respect for objective facts,” to be quite true. Throughout history, people of all ages have wanted to be accepted and belong to a group rather than look at the facts and measure what is true and false. It is very evident in our society today that not only do we want to be accepted and belong, but we also are willing to do whatever it takes, no matter what the consequences turn out to be. I agree with Drabble’s statement and believe that it is true all around the world. If you were to step outside our society and look back at it objectively, I can assure you that you would see evidence of this.…

The Harry Potter obsession is fueled by the charismatic characters and the ultimate fantasy that is colorfully painted throughout the novel. Children become hypnotized by the magic spells, the amazing conjuring of potions, the exciting adventures and creatures that could only be found in the deep realms of your mind. This is frightening to some, especially the crazy bible-thumping Christians, Radical Muslims, and crazy parents who are completely blind to the development in today’s youth. These are just a few examples of groups who disagree with this book. But why? Exactly what I said above, They believe that these books provide some sort of brainwashing method embedded deep within the pages of this book. They are afraid that children will convert to some of these “Witch-Craft” techniques and “rituals” which are commonly mentioned throughout the novels. Understandably, parents dislike the violence and death that is plagued though out the novel, but that adds a key element to the book, suspense and excitement.…

Immediately, when I turned sixteen I woke up in the morning and saw a pair of shinny silver keys sitting on my desk. I jumped up with excitement and rushed out the door wearing only my boxers, with the keys dangling in my hand. There it was: my brand new GMC Envoy, dark hunter green with a wax that could blind you. I stared at the car with excitement and admiration; it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, and it was mine. I took it for a test drive around the block and opened it up on the highway only three blocks from my house. It had a V8 under the hood, black leather seats, a Bose sound system and enough horsepower to tow anything I desired. After my first test drive around the neighborhood, I picked up the phone and called my friends. I couldn't wait to show off my new car. With a quick thank you and a hug for my parents, I sprinted out the door. Hearing a faint be careful from my mom in the background, I slammed the front door and raced to my car.…

My first encounter with fear to a high extent was when I was six years old. I was riding in the car with my mom who was under the influence of alcohol. The fear that rushed through my veins made me think that something as horrible as death could happen. My older brother and younger sister were both in the car. We then pulled into the parking lot of a liquor store. My heart sank to know that my mom was consuming more alcohol to make her blood alcohol level rise. My mom stepped out of the car into the cover of darkness and walked into the store to purchase a fifth of whiskey. When she walked out of the store, I thought to myself that something really bad was going to happen that night. When my mom returned to the car, I looked deep into her eyes and asked her,…

The word essay derives from the French infinitive essayer, to try or to attempt. The Frenchman (Michel de Montaigne 1533–1592) was the first author to describe his work as essays; he used the term to characterize these as attempts to put his thoughts into writing. Francis Bacon's essays, published in book form in 1597, 1612, and 1625, were the first works in English that described themselves as essays. (Jonson, 1609) first used the word essayist in English, according to the Dictionary. An essay is a piece of writing which is often written from an author's personal point of view. Essays can consist of a number of elements, including: literary criticism, political manifestos, learned arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article and a short story. Almost all modern essays are written in prose, but works in verse have been dubbed essay.…
