Personal Essay: A Career As A Military Assistant
Over the last 48 years I have accomplished quite a bit. Starting in 1987 I served in the US Navy Nuclear submarine force. Our covert missions included pursuit of Soviet submarines under the polar ice caps during the end of the Cold War. I graduated first in my class with the highest 26-week cumulative score of 99.62. I served Honorably for 8 years. After leaving the Navy, I enrolled at AIFL in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I studied copyright law and music/video business. While enrolled in school, I started a film and video production studio. It was a highly successful business, netting me over 3.8 million dollars in 10 years. In 2006 I sold the business and went back to teaching. I am a certified Technical Cave and Mixed Gas Deep Diving instructor. I trained students in the underground aquifers of Florida, the Bahamas and North West Africa. Along with these certification, I became one …show more content…
I suffered a paralyzed hemidiaphragm, blown out lung, dislocated elbows, traumatic brain injuries, shrapnel damage, torn shoulders and many more injuries. I spend two years in the Wounded Warrior Battalion at William Beaumont Medical Center recuperating and receiving numerous surgeries. The damage is so extensive that I was medically retired from the military. I received multiple awards including a Meritorious Service Medal and a Bronze Star for Valor under combat.
So, now that you know a bit about me, you can understand my motivation to be the best. I am currently pursuing three degrees at UTEP. I am recognized in the Dean’s list plus. My GPA is 3.88 and I am averaging 25 semester hours. I have a positive attitude, and am an asset to any organization that I join. School is now my full-time job and I take it seriously. I am also the acting Chair of recruitment for the Political Science Honor Society.
