Personal Essay: My Leadership Experience
I have been a part of many clubs and organizations where I have had the opportunities to lead a team or be a helping hand. I have had many leadership experiences and they are all great, however, there is one leadership role that makes me very proud of myself and I am a part of it everyday. Despite the fact that I am the youngest child in my family, I have always been my mother’s right hand. Coming from a refugee camp to a country seemed like worlds apart in terms of economics or through opportunities. We as family encountered many barriers that separated us from the American culture; barriers such as language, skills for working in various workplaces, and the customs of living itself. However, this did not stop my family from getting involved in any opportunity that could help us get to know the country and the people around us.

As the youngest child in the family with two older siblings, I was in the house more

This involvement has helped me become stronger and has strengthened my leadership skills. I have worked as the chapter historian of Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA). I helped the club by taking pictures of events that took place through my photography skills and helped organize events with other chapter officers, but coming into my senior year they decided to discontinue HOSA. I am the treasurer of the Interact club, a community service based club that helps our community through various service projects such as ringing bells for the Salvation Army and helping out in the Soup Kitchen to feed the homeless. I am also a member of the National Technical Honor Society and the National Honor Society. We as a NHS committee are working on building our first ever library. I act as a peer mediator to my friends. I have had friends ask me for help in classes or personal things that could be bothering

One example when I have shown service and my leadership ability is when I helped coach youth soccer the past 3 years here in the Lindsborg, Kansas community. Every spring season, the men’s and women’s soccer programs here at Bethany College help coach kids ages 4-12, we conduct practices and games for the youth of the community. One player from both the men’s and women’s team is paired up and together they are in charge of their own…

For starters, I provide assistance to those in need as well as act as a leader on and off campus. Last summer, I attended a Cabrillo Extension Youth Institute. We spoke about setting healthy boundaries, speaking firmly, asserting yourself, and teamwork. I believe that these things will greatly impact my academic career as well as my affiliation with the NHS.…

I wasn’t born a leader. No tragic event made me open my eyes to become a leader. In actuality, my mother enrolled me into an all-female women’s empowerment leadership program without my consent. I was not insecure, my grades were superb; I was however, an active follower of the most uninfluential group of friends every parent dreads. Being a follower instead of a leader is a very childlike trait. It takes an adult, woman or man, to step up and take charge in doing what they know is best for themselves and those who follow. When I’m not being a quirky goofball Emma Jean Bouie, I’m being sophisticated, empowered woman little miss Nadia Moffet. Ever since I met Nadia Moffet, C.E.O of The Queens Foundation and Miss North Carolina 2010, she has instilled something spiritually and mentally inside of me that has helped shape the young leader I am today. From the age of 13, I was no longer just Emma Jean Bouie, I slowly became, “a beautiful, powerful and strong beyond measure woman.’…

Personally, I have been involved in my community since I was in the Boy Scouts of America. As I acsended through to the top rank of Boy Scouts known as an Eagle Scout, many projects were conducted. For example, I have planned and conducted my own Eagle Scout project in 2009; this project consisted of building a roof for my local firehouse. Other community service includes roadside clean-ups, annual earth day events, and fellow Eagle Scout projects. Since my community college career, I have been well involved with our campus and community. Particularly in Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society of all community colleges, where I have become the President of our chapter. Within the society, the objectives include a honor's in action project…

I am a church member and musician at Revival Tabernacle. By being a musician, I find myself working with the talents and ideas of others as we come together on one accord and produce a skilled sound. I am also currently a student at Jones County High School. Being a student, I am a service to other organizations at school by being an usher for Graduation and also the Chorus Department. My recent involvement in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and DECA has enriched my knowledge of the business sector and how we all come together as a society and produce great ideas. In these organizations, I was able to be a holiday helper at local Nursing Homes to bring cheer to the residents. From my participation in these organizations and activities, I learned that it is better to give than receive. I was able to gain experience with dealing with the public and also give people a sense of comfort and love.…

At the beginning of my career, I had assumed leadership was only reserved for supervisory roles in top management. I soon recognized the importance of good leadership at every level of the organization including individual contributors. Fresh out of college, my first big moment arrived within a few months of starting my first job in India. I was entrusted with the responsibility of managing an offshore project and came to America. This was an icebreaker and set the ball rolling on my leadership…

My leadership experiences position around a distinct premise. I shall attempt to define that premise from my viewpoint. Under the direction and suggestion of my grade school Saint Margaret Mary, volunteering in our community was inspired. Although there were no opportunities to serve in leadership roles during this undertaking, I had always embraced leadership. As a son of a Marine, I grew up with a solid sense of duty and service, in addition to a first-hand knowledge of leadership qualities.…

My leadership style is best described as a funnel. My aim in leading others is not to conduct every single individual, but to guide everyone to work towards the same central goal. I believe it is best to let others bring their own unique abilities to the table and use them to accomplish the task at hand. One of my most memorable experiences as a leader was leading my school’s student section. When I came into high school, school spirit was a joke. At games, everyone sat and no one said a thing. I decided that needed to change. My fellow students didn’t want change. They told my friends and I to sit down and shut up. I kept standing, I yelled louder, and kept going. Eventually, I started a spark. By the end of my freshman year there were a group…

Pastor Dr. Stacy Spencer reminds us every class that “all of us have room and that’s room for improvement”. I believe this with everything in side of me which calls my attention to the five areas of Exemplary Leadership. Within those areas of leadership there is one area that I may focus on and pay close attention to as I am developed into a great leader. There are other areas that I have to improve in and continue to sharpen my tools, but this area requires the most attention. When it comes to the area of “Challenge the Process” this is my weakest area in the Exemplary Leadership Module. This area is the weakest because when operating in this area you have to make moves and take risk. I understand that God has not given us the spirit of fear…

I have partaken in TI@ti, sophomore year and currently, which is an organization based on increasing leaderships skills and increasing awareness against drugs and alcohol. Last year, I guided peers to make healthier life choices and to take positive risks. I stepped up when my advisors, Ms. Ramirez and Mr. Rosenfeld (at the time) needed presenters for the PTSO meetings, Saturday Academy for 7th and 8th graders, and for 600+ seniors who attended prom last school year. The Saturday Academy was a huge leadership role where I had to advise seventh and eighth graders on what to expect from high school. I volunteer at various locations such as for the 9/11 Day of Service, Jersey Cares Day, and Paterson’s Operation clean up. In all of these services, I did landscaping because I felt as if the…

Through the course, I learned about leadership different styles and how they emerged and developed from the Trait Theories that focus on the leader characteristics to the Goal Orientations Theories that require collaborative methods between leaders and followers. As I mentioned before, I had always linked the leadership weight to the leader leading characteristics. However, I would argue now that leadership is gained through practice and experience and it is powered through followers. As a school leader, I will use a mixture of leadership theories. First, I will build my school on an ethical basement and then, I will structure a vision that is shared between everyone in the school. At this point of my study, I believe that the type of leadership…

All throughout school I have participated in many clubs and organizations that have not only molded me as a person, but have helped me to develop responsibility, and leadership skills. Currently I am an active member of National Honor Society, and DECA. Both of these organizations, provided by my high school, encourage leadership, volunteer work, and have high expectations for behavior, and grades. Being in National Honor Society has shown me to continually do for others in need. There are always opportunities to get involved with the community, and even create drives for things like stuffed animals, and blankets for children who are sick in the hospital, and “Care Catties” for cancer patients, which include tissues, water bottles, hard candy, and lotion. DECA is another organization I am involved in at Frenship High School. DECA is a business organization for high school marketing students looking to learn, develop and compete in a competitive event. I have been a member since my sophomore…
