Ethical Lens Inventory is used as way to identify what values are more important to me as an individual. The inventory allows me to see ethical dilemma clearly and learn how to resolve them better. The awareness of people having different priorities and different values help me to learn and respect each other’s point of views.
My preferred ethical lens is Rights and responsibility. It says that I think thoroughly through a problem and options before taking action and choosing a decision-making strategy. That’s probably more often in some cases. I notice a symbol for this lens is the Telescope. On a telescope you look beyond to determine what you can do, need to do. I can say that this implies all the possible options leading to a stronger decision making strategy for others and me.
My blind spot - Belief that motive justifies method - says because I am so clear about my reasons for acting, I believe that the motive justifies the method. I may unintentionally cause people upset and pain because I am so focused on my good motive. I believe that ethics is a set of universal rules that everyone must follow, just as you do. You follow the rules – everyone should. This things are all true to me. Justifies, unintentionally, following, this words coincide to what really is me.
My strength and weaknesses: My strength is I use my reasoning skills (rationality) to determine my duties as well as the universal rules that each person should follow (autonomy) and because I value autonomy and rationality, I assume that my own definitions of what a responsible person should do apply to everyone. Using my critical thinking skills is my preferred method for learning and problem-solving. Think through a problem carefully and research options to find the one that will allow me fulfill my duties.
