2nd evidence:
“It is ironic that after fighting disinvestment and seeking to encourage reinvestment for more than 20 years the revitalization value that PACC was trying to protect – is seriously threatened.”1

“Plans for a pedestrian plaza on Myrtle Avenue have been pushed back until summer due to glitches in the bidding process. …. This isn’t the first hold up, which was championed by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership.”

Along with the fact that the city is going to pay to repaint it just is bad. It's honestly just a waste of money, a guy paints something on the freeway, it gets tagged up, sues the city, the city pays him and spends money to restore it. I also disagree with the city's response to restore it because it will not be as interesting as it was back in 1984 due to the fact that they are going to repaint the same mural. I disagree with the city's response to pay Romero because this happened a long time ago and the painting was basically set up to get tagged…

This happened because some person got bothered by the 40 foot cross; so he got in touch with the Supreme Court to complain about the monument. His complaint was that you can see the cross when you’re driving on the highway. The article was interesting to me because, my feeling on what they should do with the 40 foot monument is; that the state should keep the monument there because it has the same meaning as the pentagon.…

The artist Richard Serra, in 1981, installed his sculpture, Tilted Arc, in the Federal Plaza in New York City. Even though the piece had been commissioned by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the Arts-In-Architecture program, it immediately caused controversy. In 1963, the GSA established the Arts-In Architecture program to make ½ of 1% of a federal building’s cost to be spent on public art. The point of this program was to enhance public spaces and to expand the public’s awareness of contemporary art by installing artworks created by contemporary U.S. artists.…

It was very notable that most of these people were white while a majority of the community is black. It is not necessarily a bad thing, but it definitely had a role in the outcome of the redevelopment. A common goal among developers was to create an area with good shopping and restaurants for members of the community and for people from the suburbs to come to visit. One issue with this, however, was that a lot of the members of the community could not even afford to shop at the stores brought in. There was a very touching story told about a grandmother trying to buy a few things for her grandchildren at whole foods so that they would have good, healthy food to eat, but she could not afford the things that she wanted to buy.…

But in every case of a landmark being made there’s always people that are for it, against it and do not want to see it happen. For example, some people see the gate and are not supportive of it and see it as a waste of space but according to The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia says about the gate is , “In that case it provided a distinctive anchor for Philadelphia’s Chinatown, which had evolved since the nineteenth century to become a cultural and business center for multiple Asian immigrant groups. Chinatown’s borders have been redefined and reduced by urban renewal and infrastructure projects such as the Ben Franklin Bridge, the Vine Street Expressway, Independence Mall Urban Renewal Area, and the Philadelphia Convention Center. Residents of Chinatown protested each of these projects, which resulted in businesses and homes being razed and residents displaced. One successful protest in 1973 resulted in a redesign of the Vine Street Expressway, so that the construction would not destroy three additional city blocks and a church within Chinatown (Encyclopedia). This is an example of how the Friendship Gate effected its surrounding urban environment. People that wanted Chinatown to get reduced is because they do not see the significance that, that area has to a certain population, which are the Asians. Even with local protests, Chinatown has been reduced in size from…

The Idea of a sculpture or other public art form for Front Street in Yakima Washington came from the plan of restoration of the historical district in 2004. When the original plans fell through the city council made the decision to place a donated sculpture “the Convolution” in front of a locally owned restaurant The Depot owned by Karl Pasten. Pasten became outraged by the notion of modern art being placed into a historical district stating “…to me it looks like three-dimensional graffiti." A long seven month debate arose from the disagreement on placing the sculpture. The sculpture eventually placed in its original location bringing joy and interest to some and defeat to others but not before creating a new pathway for public art.…

Despite being approved to build this Muslim gathering center by a community board, the organizers of this project have been hassled, threatened, and simply put-down over their plan to unite a city beyond the barriers of religion. Followers of Islam in America have been wrongly persecuted by their fellow citizens because of Muslim extremists that brought terror upon the country. Many protestors of the mosque construction consider the project a stab in the heart while the project director, Daisy Khan says, “It’s a platform to the silent majority of Muslims who suffer at the hands of extremists...A center will show that Muslims will be part of rebuilding lower Manhattan (Peyser).” The Muslim center would be a place for anyone, not only Muslims, to unite and forget about race, gender, and religion. There should be no question that the denial of any person to build a place of worship on private property is a violation of one’s constitutional rights. There is no evident relationship between Muslims whom practice peaceful worship and extremists seeking to lash out upon the United States of America.…
