There is a possibility that, if you chose the wrong person, instead of supporting your decision, they will attempt to talk you out of it and even ridicule your efforts. There are many reasons why this happens.
Many people feel insecure about their own poor shape. They know they need to do something about their condition, but for a variety of reasons they don't. When someone comes along and "upsets the apple cart," so to speak, by reminding them of their own poor shape and eating habits, and the fact they don't do anything about it, they become upset. In truth, they are upset with themselves, but instead of using this anger constructively, it is often reflected back on the person that caused the feelings to surface.
So, they may attempt to talk you out of doing what you have learned is the best way of transforming your body and life. In their own minds they think they're doing you a favor by getting you to quit. Those that support you are usually secure in themselves, and confident enough not to feel threatened by your quest for self-improvement. The majority of them will probably not be overweight, and if they are, are probably only marginally so. On the other side, those that attempt to "talk you out of it" will typically have a poor body image of themselves, probably because they are overweight and out of shape. These people may have attempted and failed at losing fat and getting in shape many times before, and definitely don't want to see someone succeed at what they were, and continue to be, failures
