It was a few years ago. It seems like everything has changed. My appearance, my friends, myself. Even if everything has come and gone, I will never lose everything that makes me. All of that begins with me starting my instrument. I was deeply interested in band. I had always wanted to play an instrument, even though all I could do at the time was sing in chorus. “Today is my day,” I thought to myself. “I will pick my instrument today!” My teacher said “Class is dismissed.” I grabbed my lunch card and went as fast as I could down the hall without being called out for running. I went and got my lunch with a smile, knowing that right after lunch and recess, I would get to choose my instrument. The day went on. Lunch seemed

I went from the girl who was terrified of speaking her mind to someone who can easily give speeches in front of people and can lead a clarinet section of 20 people. Being responsible for 19 other people is a challenge that freshman me would never have been able to do, and in this way, band has helped me grow into both the leader and the person that I am today. However, band didn’t just help me grow, it made me happy. My memories of band are some of the happiest memories of my life. Memories ranging from praying to all the band gods above for a water break or possibly a nice cloud to shade us from the evil sun to marching and winning sweepstakes at our very first competition and crying our tears of happiness together. I will always cherish these memories.Band acted as my salvation in how it forced me to grow into the leader I am today and how it made me happy. I want college to act as my second salvation. When I first found Arcadia, I wanted to go there simply for the accelerated forensic science program it provided. Then, I visited the campus and realized that I adore it and would love living…

I wanted to be like all my other friends and play the clarinet, but instead I was chosen to play the flute. I did not understand at first why Mr. Peirce wanted me to play the flute, I thought it was complicated and would be difficult to function. We started by fingering and playing one note at a time repeatedly until each note was well played. Next, we started playing notes together to make sure we knew how to go from one to the other smoothly. Lastly, we learned scales, also known as playing the letters of the staff up then down. Soon after having these lessons of learning how to finger the notes and how to correctly blow in my mouth piece, I realized it was much easier then it looked. After a year, I was moved into the high school band. There were a small number of flutes, so we had to play very loud. We started by learning small songs. By playing a new song every day, I started to memorize the keys which made playing much easier. As the months passed Mr. Peirce placed a music piece in front of us known as “Bella’s Lullaby”. I was then ecstatic! Bella’s Lullaby was the piece played in one of my favorite movies, Twilight. It took us weeks to learn and another to perfect. After learning the piece I finally knew what it felt like to hear music speak. The piece was full of emotion including a lot of crescendo and decrescendo. Meanwhile, after finishing the song, Mr. Peirce thought that it should be played amongst an audience. We were to invite all our family and friends to what we called a concert. After playing the piece, along with other small pieces that we learned, we were given a round of applause. That night, Mr. Peirce awarded me with the “Most Improved…

The thirteenth emoji going left to right, that has heart eyes and has its lips perked out is relateable to a part of the book where Jerome and Rory are kissing intensively. On page 200 it states "I started pressing my lips into his cheek - just a hint of a kiss,.....I felt his shoulders release, and he made a little noise that was partly a groan, partly a sigh. He kissed my neck up, up, up to my ear......My body flushed itself with all the good chemicals that it takes to reserve for making out. On page 201 it states " He told me scary Jack the Ripper facts, and I had the sudden need to make out with him until I ran out of breath. I would have continued indefinitely if........."…

The band has been an integral part of my life since I joined back in 7th grade. I’ve had several hobbies over the years, but band is one of the few activities that have sparked my interest. It has created an environment where my strengths can positively shine. Without band I’d have a much less impressive student life. The band program has given me most of the friends that I have today, and that is something I couldn’t replace. The band is by far the most important aspect of my high school career, and I really feel that it is a highly positive stepping stone in my life.…

Finally, when I moved to New Orleans I started volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital and helped with pop up clinics for the Latino community twice. Overall I found that helping others shouldn't be something seen as duty or mandatory, it should be spontaneous. Through others experiences and hardships we learn and grow as human beings, not only did I enjoy helping others but I felt that it helped me with my problems. Having moved around so much and meet so many people and living by myself so many years I came to truly be thankful for my blessings and specially for my hardships. Hermann Hesse once said, "I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value." Helping others made me realize that we all need help and that my way to help others would be through their health. It also taught me not to judge anybody, especially if you don't know what they have been through. I am hard believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the weekends I spend watching my parents help others helping others myself made me the determined person that I am today. Finally, the most important lesson I learned was to never give up, no matter how hard the task is or how bad the problem is there will always be someone willing to help and you can always be both sides to that, the helper or the one who needs…

Mom died soon after my 21st birthday. Alone and terrified, I married Scott one of my fellow co-workers whom which also shared a passion for music. Like me, he was just a poor boy from an even poorer family, but did he ever have the talent to play the violin. I would write the concertos, he would perform in town. As time went by, we were asked to join a musical ensemble from Toronto. News was, there was much prosperity in the music business in the nearby province, so we gathered the few belonging we had and left the ghettos of Montreal to try our luck in Toronto.…

After retaking the LASSI I have noticed a considerable amount of improvement as well as regression. In the beginning of the year, I vowed to myself that I would become a better student. I wanted to maximize all of my abilities in order to be successful. So, after I took my first LASSI and had my talk with Mac, I began to implement new strategies meant to help me accomplish my goal. First I had to deal with my anxiety. In past years I suffered with a lot of anxiety while learning math. I used to love math very much, however, this changed after my 6th grade year. Math became a foreign subject to me. I could no longer make connections and solve problems. As a result, my grades in math began to drop. As a person who is used to getting A’s and B’s on assignments, I had a difficult time in coping with my failure since it didn’t live up to my standards in the subject of math. My difficulty with math eventually caused me to have anxiety. I had carried this anxiety until my sophomore year in high school. It seemed as if no matter how hard I tried to concentrate on math tests my mind would always become blank. Luckily I had an…

During the age of ten, in my fourth grade class, the whole fourth grade which consisted of around seventy kids, had to do a musical. The musical consisted of seventy kids playing a plastic flute. We spent about two months practicing and had to learn how to play it properly, I struggled with it a lot. I wasn't too much into it nor did I like music very much after having to play a flute which was one the worst experiences of my life. When 5th grade came, the whole 5th grade classes was required to be part of a chorus. It was required that every student had to do it, to graduate. I actually liked chorus a lot better than playing the flute. I enjoyed it cause even if my voice and singing was not too good, it didn't matter because we sung as a group.…

I remember sitting on my beige couch, watching the time click on the wall. I was excited for the hands of the clock to reach the hour I had been waiting. This was to be my present to my sister for her twelfth birthday- two tickets for 5 Seconds of Summer, a pop punk band that we both enjoyed.…

When middle school came around I was in a whole new environment. I was now taking music classes such as choir and music theory, as well as my saxophone lessons I would have once a week. This would be the start of my life changing for the better. I soon became equipped to perform music and would do so in every music concert we had at my school. At first it was a struggle especially since I was in classes with kids who’ve dealt with music before middle school, but it got easier as the years went on.…
