Personal Narrative: A Career As A Certified Nursing Assistant

During the summer I worked at a nursing home to gain some experience in the healthfield. Working as a certified nursing assistant really helped me grow and it is one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve had, it also was very challenging at times. As I said before I struggle with anxiety, but working as a nursing assistant pushed me to overcome some of the fears I had of communicating. I learned really quick when working in a nursing home you strongly need the ability to have good communication skills because without it you can’t communicate with the charge nurses, the residents or the other C.N.A’s. Everyday that I worked there I used different forms of communications such as body language which I learned says a lot about what a person is feeling.
I worked on the dementia floor in the nursing home which was difficult at times because some of the resident had no form of verbally communicating with you and that was a challenge I faced when I first started working there, but with time I learned that they use their body language such as facial expression and posture as a form of communication.
