Personal Narrative: A Career As A Mentor

During the summer I was able to lead a group of incoming freshman and enhance their confidence towards their first year of high school. Before I led the group of underclassmen, I had a two day training in how to become a great leader and know how to express my skills. As a leader, I showed many skills such as communication, leadership, and patience. I served as a mentor to these fifteen freshman by giving them advice and encouraging them to get involved. I played activities with them which represented challenges which will be faced through high school as well as lessons which boosted their confidence to communicate with each other. For instance, the game team juggling they had to attempt to juggle countless paper balls which represented how busy high school will be with new challenges and responsibilities.
Talking to new students was a huge jump for them, because they all came from different schools which made it difficult to communicate. This was a unique experience especially, because I have never taught a class by myself nor been a mentor to younger students. Leadership affected me in a positive way, because I was able to apply my skills into a real life leadership role.
