My main goal is to go to college. I am looking at a degree in forestry. My next goal is to find a job in the career field of my choice. To do this I need to make sure that when I am in college, I am putting forth my best effort in my classes and networking with people in the field. These goals have to be reached for me to do well out in the real world. High school may seem like it doesn’t matter, but it does because in the end without high school, I wouldn’t be able to go on to college and then on to a job that I love to do and work. To make my family proud I want to graduate and go onto college, get my degree, and finally make a living in my career field choice.…

I have learned that long-term career / professional goals are best achieved when we break them into shorter goals. As part of a team, I want to add value and continue to grow the company. My long term goals is to leave legacy and be the asset of that…

As a student who is scientifically minded and passionate about the health and well-being of animals, I have decided that I would like to have a career as a veterinarian. I am aware that in order to be a successful veterinarian, you not only need to have an interest in animals, but also in the field of science and mathematics. Fortunately, science and mathematics are my favorite subjects. In sciences, I gain knowledge of biology and anatomy as they relate to the study of animals. On the other hand, mathematics gives me knowledge of veterinary medicine as to where prescriptions are given to different sized animals.…

A cold sweat began to bead at the base of my neck as I urged the muscles in my knee to work their way through the set of squats my physical therapist had asked me to perform. My appointment was scheduled at seven in the morning, but already I could feel the adrenaline rushing up and down my spine as I watched the sun rise over the waking city through the large paneled windows of the gym. Sharp pain shot up the inside of my right knee as I slowly lowered myself, making it difficult to continue the squats. As I pushed the muscles in my knee to lower myself further, I gazed intently at the wall in front of me for inspiration. A quote I had learned to cherish over time as my personal mantra adorned the wall, reading, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." With these powerful words lodged into the back of my mind, I dropped my body into an even lower squat and continued to complete the set with strong determination to get back to soccer, the sport…

It was a relaxing day at home in the Helfman household. My mom was constantly jabbering on the phone, my dad’s eyes were glued to his computer working, and my brother was stuck to his bed and never got up. My brother, Danny had gotten into Syracuse University a few months earlier and he was ecstatic about the life he was going to make for himself. Danny and I got along well our whole lives, but we weren’t as close as some other siblings. This upset me because sometimes all I wanted to do was talk to my brother and get his advice. I have three dogs. My dogs Sadie, Tootsie, and Lucky are cuddly and soft toy poodles.…
Here we go! It’s time for our trip and I’m so excited. I scamper to the car because I remember what Jan has told me. Service dogs must do everything they are told. Even though I am only a puppy, I want to be a service dog like my uncle someday. Service dogs help people who cannot do important things. Some help people who cannot see well to travel safely. Others help people who cannot move well to manage things like opening doors or turning on lights. Service dogs do very important work for people with disabilities!…

After investigating career pathway/cluster, I chose veterinarian as the career which interested me. I learned that a veterinarian’s may work in different settings such as clinics, or if they are a large animal veterinarian they would work outdoors and on farms. Being a veterinarian is a demanding job it may require you to work long hours and sometimes long weekends. While working veterinarians not only work with the animals they have to deal with emotional pet owners and a lot of noise.…

What I have also discovered about myself is that I’m interested, and I mean really interested, in a myriad of things ranging from marketing to kinesiology to dermatology. I think this is because I know I could be happy and fulfilled doing a lot of different things. Throughout my childhood, I have been equally engaged in contrasting activities like learning how to fish on Leech Lake in Minnesota and learning about the harsh realities of the war my dad faced as a child. Although I am knowledgeable about the values my parents and community have instilled in me, I am eager to expand my…
