I was being yelled at receiving all the attention to keep going and not stopping. Even though I'm going through this, I stayed motivated, thinking to myself that I can do one more. At the end of the day, I reminded myself of a Navy Seal instructor saying, “Whatever you have to do, just find an excuse to win, keep going.” Just these few words made me survive the night and find that reason to keep going. The Department of Homeland Security is already understaffed. Hiring this many agents at one time could be difficult. Candidates must pass a written exam, a physical exam, a drug test, a background check, and hold a 4-year college degree. The hiring process takes over 200 days. The Commissioner of Homeland Security reported that although many apply for these positions only about 60% of the applicants bother to make an appointment to take the entrance exam. The fear is that these agents will be hired without the proper training. Illegal immigrants have always been a problem in the United States for some time now. “In October 2008, the illegal immigrant population stood at 11.9 million according to the Pew Hispanic Center” ("Illegal Immigration Facts & Statistics”). An efficient border patrol in our country would be a good step in the right direction to stop illegal immigration and the effect it has on our country. Illegal immigrants are at fault for such things as smuggling drugs into the country, which increases crime rate. Illegal immigrants also deprive U.S. citizens’ from the lower and middle class of jobs. America will also lose money on taxes and schools lose funds in most public systems because of teaching illegal immigrants. “In 1965, the number of aliens apprehended by the Border Patrol coming across the border was 110,000. Now that number is more than one million annually” ("Illegal Immigration Facts & Statistics”). An effective border patrol not only helps American citizens, but it also keeps many illegal immigrants out of our country.…
