“Assess the significance of the Truman Doctrine for the origins and development of the cold war”…
It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner. “Joe,” my father hollered up the stairs, “it’s for you. It’s Jackie, and she sounds upset.” As I came downstairs to pick up the phone, I was not happy. I was tired and had looked forward to a nice and quiet evening at home, not another stupid adventure with Jackie.…
As I hear those words that I most deeply despise come out her mouth, it quickly led me to think that this woman did not know what she was talking about. Before she had said these words we were talking about our favorite sports and she said hers was basketball and I told her mine was baseball. “Baseball is boring to watch,” she said. Hearing someone say this about my favorite sport that I have been playing throughout my life irritates me and it brings my attention to wonder why people find this sport boring. People similar to this woman, believe that baseball is a boring sport yet they do not realize that it is actually one of America’s most exciting sports!…
I was an eight year old kid when I had my first ever glimpse of the NBA Basketball. It was a lanky afro manchild doing a reverse dunk versus Indiana right in front of the Laker crowd. Crowd was in awe, Commentators were ecstatic and Kevin Harlan in his usual voice saying, Kobe can’t be denied. That day, my love affair with the Los Angeles Lakers started.…
To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Based on my personal knowledge of Pentathlon, I have first-handedly experience the soul of a Pentathlete through various study sessions at Ethan Allen. Because of this, I have developed a deep insight of the components necessary to be a true Pentathlete. In addition to having first-hand experience, I also have extremely high expectations for both myself and other students, for it is essential in my academic growth. With this, one like myself could ultimately…

The interesting thing about sports writers is the fact that not every writer can be a sports writer. Writers can be grammatically perfect with flawless writing skills, but it means nothing if they…
Have you ever met someone who has the "perfect job" - like the animal lover who's a great veterinarian or the science whiz who's a lab technician? What about the people who are good at what they do - but hate getting up every morning to go do it?…
physically gifted they may bepropositioned me. He bet me that he could either strike me out or force an out. This was a bold maneuver. Vincent knew I would not turn him down. Deciding to let him win in front of the parents, or shatter his confidence was tough. The entire team went out onto the field knowing that I would hit the ball for the reason that it was impossible to strike me out. I let him throw the first strike, and swung and missed on the second pitch. The parents joined in the action and cheered him on, with the hopes of seeing an elementary school kid strike out a high school baseball player. I came to the realization that I have much more to give than allowing Vincent to strike me out just to make the onlookers happy. I hit the…

Two of the worst things you can be are extremely shy and extremely tall. The shyness and anxiety make you want to become a small ball, but you can’t do that when you’re twelve and 5’9. These overwhelming emotions made me want to quickly disqualify any and everything that brought attention to myself. So that made journalism seem like a non- existing option. However, I continued to write because that’s what I loved and even if I couldn’t pursue it I needed to write because it was a part of me. I decided to attend a high school that specialized in all things communications, not because I magically thought journalism was for me, but because I wanted to go to a school where no one knew me. This was one of the best things I could’ve done. In the center for communications, I learned the ins and outs of writing academically and for a publication. I learned how to separate you on screen persona from your…
