Personal Narrative: A Hero's Journey
A Hero’s Journey Have you ever wondered where you would be if you would have chosen another path? Have you ever wondered how that choice could have changed your life if you would have made it? Often I look back and think about my past and look at the places I have been and the things I have done. Some things I’m not proud of. Some of those things bring back vague memories. Whether they are good or bad they still come back to me. Everything we do is based upon choices. After we make those choices there comes consequences. We can never decide our consequences, they just come.
There are many paths that we have to take in life. They can lead as astray or to exactly where we want to be. In my life I’ve been faced with many paths to choose from. A path that I took totally changed my life. This path that I took I didn’t necessarily choose for myself, but I will be forever grateful for the people that made it happen. In May of 2008 I was adopted by Zane and Stacy Gillette. Before we jump too far ahead I need to talk about life leading up to this event. This was going to be a

I probably would be caught up in drugs and alcohol because that was what I was used to. That would’ve been all I’d ever known. Things would have went downhill fast for me. I know it. Like I said before I look and think where would I be right now if wasn’t in the situation I was in now. I’m forever thankful. I realize my Atonement and what I have and what I have to be thankful for.
My Hero’s Journey is a journey that shows that you can become anything. No matter what mold you come from, what environment you were raised in, who your parents are, who your friends are, you are you. You choose your own paths in life. You become who you make yourself. Choose the right paths and God and the people he puts in your way will help you get to where you need to be. You are destined for greatness and that is what makes me and you a

My life would be very different if I had stayed in Chicago. I never would've started to run, I never would've met my best friend, and I wouldn't have received the same standard of education I am now. At times, I wonder what happened to my old friends. I don't know if they stayed in Chicago, or if they moved out of state. I don't know if any of them are impacted by drugs or drinking, and I doubt I'll ever see them again. I now know that my life was significantly changed by that one day when we left the city, but was it for the better? Unlike Wes, I do not have a similar counterpart to compare myself too, but I like to think that my parents made a decision with my best interest in…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

I have always felt that this allowed me a unique empathy. My family history is so vast; spread out across the globe, and there are so many human stories I feel connected to. But, there is one story that stands out from the rest – one that is more personal to me than any other. That is the story of my mother, who inspires me every day.…

I look back on who I was and realize that, if I’d never asked that first question, I would still be that shy kid who was more like a robot than a human. I would not have a great job working with all of my friends at Kroger, because I would not have made those connections to get the job. I would not be center snare in the drumline. I would not be the person that I am today, with the friends that I have today. I would not have been able to accomplish these things, had I not asked my teacher about his favorite serial killer on the first day of school my sophomore…

Who’s your hero? Is it police officers, firefighters, or even a family member? Growing up, there was absolutely no one I admired more than my dad, he was my hero, my best friend, the ultimate supporter, and my whole world. For a long time, my dad would have spells that he would be on the floor, in so much pain it took all his willpower not to show us how bad he was hurting, after a few years of this, and 3 times of us moving houses, my mom gave him no option but to go to the doctor. After careful examination, we got terrible news, because his tumor was noticed.…

A year ago I went to see the movie the “Vow” and my greatest takeaway was related to a phrase that Leo (one of the main characters used) throughout the film. “My theory is about moments, moments of impact. My theory is that these … flashes of high impact actually end up defining who I am.” When I returned home, this led me to think about my life and some of the moments of impact that I have experienced over the years. When I was 17, I thought I wanted to save the world so I joined VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and was sent to Miami, Florida. I went to the Rehabilitation Center with mentally challenged adults for two years but i didn’t like, I realized that my calling was with the emotionally challenged with Medical Assistant. I love to help people and if they need something I would love to be there. We all have moments of impact, whether it is related to our work, our relationshiips, our life choices or our decisions that we make. The thing to remember is that we are ultimately responsible for all the choices in our lives. And isn’t that the beauty of it, we have choices! Knowing that each day, when we wake up, our moments of impact are related to all the choices that we make moment by moment.…

In the worlds eye of a hero we tend to think of super heroes from comic books, movies , and television shows. Well many of us look up to that special person in our lives that have shown courage and determination to succeed after set backs. My hero in my life is my father. My father was born in a small town in Durango,Mexico. He was brought to the United States at the age of 6 years old with 6 other siblings. While being raised in South Central Los Angeles, California he was brought into poverty. My father said he remembered “waking up at four in the morning every saturday and sunday when the sun isn’t even out for a couple hours to sell things at the swapmeet to make money to pay the bills”. My father was working at the age of six years old with other siblings to help pay the rent. My father sacrificed a lot at a young age. As years went by different jobs were offered to my father due to hard work that was shown. He went through high school working to support some of his necessities and wants. At the age of eighteen he graduated from high school while purchasing his first car with his own money that he worked for. Without a college education he managed to get a job at a company that no longer exists by the name of RPS. RPS was a trucking delivery company similar to Fed-Ex. With hard work and dedication he moved his way up in Leadership positions while dealing with four children and a wife to provide for. My father never gave up and never accepted anything lower than what was worked for. He then decided to open up his own trucking delivery company by the name of Danmark transport. My father has never given up not even when his business failed with no job available for him. He quickly found a job at U.P.S (similar to Fed-Ex)where he worked for 10 years after getting injured on the job. Till this day he unable to work a labored job yet he still manages to provide for a large family as ours. He has sacrifed throughout his life to provide for others before…

Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…
