Personal Essay
Being the son of two immigrants in America, I never felt that I was a true “American” or a true “Indian.” Being brought to America at six months of age, I never got to experience the culture that my parents had been raised in. I was living two lifestyles, half day American and the second half, when I got home from school, I lived an Indian lifestyle. At home, I spoke Hindi but at school, I was being taught a whole new language, English. Having these differences I did not realize how unique I was; I realized that many of my friends cannot fluently speak another language; speaking in Hindi and not having to worry if someone was gonna hear me was a hidden benefit I never realized I had. Being part of my temple’s youth group and taking the president position has helped me serve my community and help me become a leader. I also volunteer my time at a hospital near by me. I am choosing Engineering as my major because the job is all about helping people and the community in some sort of way. Another reason I picked engineering is because I like to be creative, and creativity is what makes an engineer successful; I believe doing what you are truly passionate about will make your life more enjoyable because you will wantingly work harder to achieve something you are passionate about. I am part of a program offered at my school called CAPS, this program helps students figure out if they want to pursue a career of their choice. I picked the engineering program at CAPS and I already know that engineering is the right choice for me. I believe [SCHOOL NAME] has the resources for me to become successful in life and help me help people in the world. I truly feel I would fit into this
