if I wear a bad outfit? What do I do if I get loss? What if I didn’t like it, would my parents move back to my old school? What if the teachers are mean or to hard? Luckily, I settled quickly and made even more friends than I already had. Seventh grade was definitely a transition year for me as I acclimated to life in a public school. I was able to wear pretty much whatever I want, just had to follow dress code rules like no tank tops or flip flops. I was allowed to have nail polish on my nails. I didn’t have to wear my smelly/baggy gym clothes all day anymore. I had my own locker and used it so wisely. Eighth grade was the best year of my middle school years. It was a quick three years when I look back now, but they were filled with so many memories with great friends.
My middle school teachers were a mix of the nicest and toughest. I had positive and negative experiences throughout these years. Sixth grade I started to dislike my friends. They were all about starting unnecessary drama and who was better than who. I remember doing experiments and labs at Mater Dei with my science teachers Mr. Mulley and Mrs. Scolshal. I can’t remember any of my sixth grade teachers, except my Religion teacher who was also my homeroom adviser. She was the absolute best! She made class so much fun and creative everyday. She had curly hair that she either wore in a bun and once in a while sometimes down. My favorite teacher in 7th grade was my Language Arts teacher, Mr. Gallitelli. He was one of my best friends dad and was the wrestling coach at Bayshore. Every day he would have us do a daily journal in the beginning of class. I was able to express myself and learn how to write more descriptive by the lessons he taught us. We would real novels and always skip around the class while we read them. Everyone was limited to read 5 pages so we didn’t have to listen to the same voice over and over again. My least favorite teacher in 7th grade was my science teacher, Ms. Schlank. She was extremely tough and young, which didn’t make sense because usually young teachers aren’t so tough. Her classroom was lab tables that had the stool seats so that made it even worse. We did so many labs, that she graded very detailed. There was a rule that you could only write in pencil or else she would freak out badly. Another rule was that you were only allowed to use the bathroom pass once a week. If you had to really go to the bathroom and you already went once that week, she would yell at you in front of the whole class and ask why you didn’t go at lunch!
Eighth grade was my favorite year of middle school. I appreciated my teachers and friends everyday as much as I coul. My Language Arts and Math teacher, Mrs. Kelly/Mrs. Doland were the nicest and most understanding people out their. They were both older, but interesting and tall so it was kinda hard to get bored in class. The only thing that bothered me about my Language Arts teachers gum rule. If you wanted to chew gum in class, you had to give a piece to everyone or throw yours out and if you didn’t have enough you still had to throw it out. I always had gum because it helped me focus, plus I had class right after lunch. My History teacher was a great humorous man. His name was Mr. Gannon and their was not a single mean bone in his body. He always was smiling, I don’t think I heard him yell once. I wrote my first Thesis Paper in his class about Rosa Parks, which I really enjoyed doing. I remember on the last day of school he lets all of his students sign his desk. He always wore cool ties too. There were only two kids in class that I really talked to their names were Payton and Jess. They were both in my science last year so that’s how I knew them, they were super nice and smart. We did our group projects together class, which we got 100s on everything. Overall, I had some memorable teachers who made up for some of the crazy ones.
The highlight of middle school was the special trips.
In the beginning of the year in November, my entire grade traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania over a mini cruise ship. It was an experience of a trip. On the boat their 3 floors full of drinks and mini cocktails to eat. Their was plenty of seats/tables to sit and chat at. We also were allowed outside of the boat, but sadly it was rainy and really chilly. I remember the best part was the dance floor/dj. It was a casual dress code so it wasn’t anything fancy, but it was still very fun. While traveling to Philadelphia we saw the Liberty Bell, Independence hall, went in the penny museum, saw Benjamin Franklin's grave and many other famous peoples. Another thing that I remember about the trip was that the chaperones were awesome and let us do such much on our own. Our chaperone was one of my friends mom who got us these pretzels that were beyond yummy. It was a blast! The end of the year trip was at the Middletown Pool Club/Ice World. Our whole grade got to go for free as our end of the year graduation present. We swam and tanned all day, played basketball, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Later on we ate, went skating, then had dessert. Their was hotdogs/hamburgers to eat that i remember were burnt and not so good. The dessert was cookies and ice cream that were delicious to end the
day.
Middle school was an interesting experience. Between puberty and getting taller, there were definitely more awkward moments, but we all got through them. I spent almost every weekend my two best friends Gia and Rachel. We were either playing soccer together, having sleepovers, watching movies, shopping at the mall, chilling on Facebook/ooVoo, etc. We loved watching scary movies, shopping at Hollister or Victoria’s secret. Our favorite artists to listen to would be Justin Bieber! I remember we went to our first Justin Bieber concert all together on November 18 in 2012 at The Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ. During that time it was near Hurricane Sandy, the terrible storm. We hung out a lot because we had off from school and helped cleaned up many areas nearby. It was a serious sad effect that happened on the shore of NJ. Gia’s dads apartment in Highlands got completely destroyed. Middle School was definitely a great experience and set the foundation for the next step in my future, high school.
