From Highway 101, we took the Silver Street exit, as Noke explained that we were going to a farmer’s market. Knowing how much Oma and Evie would enjoy their first experience visiting a market in California, he was eager to show us the Alemany Farmer’s Market; the oldest one in the Bay Area. We past the city of Brisbane, which Noke said was known as “the City of Stars” for the residents and business owners who display large, illuminated stars, some exceeding 10 feet in diameter, on the rooftops of their homes during the Christmas Season. I imagined the magical sight of all those lighted stars on top of the homes throughout Brisbane. Soon, we noticed an enormous sign of white letters on a hillside proclaiming that we were driving past “South San Francisco, the Industrial City,” everything was a grand size compared to the intimate size of everything in Holland. Fondly, Noke pointed out the main points of interest along the way, while Ellen and I pointed out magnificent homes to each other and wondered if that was the home we were going to live
