Personal Narrative: An Open Campus At The University Of Northeastern
It would be dishonest to say that Northeastern University was number one on my list from the beginning of the college process. Despite its prestigious reputation, Northeastern has one particular factor that I use to be strongly against, an open campus. However, upon visiting the campus and going on a tour with my mother this past summer my mind was quickly changed. On one of the hottest days of last summer I experienced that “this is it” gut feeling when I stepped on campus for the first time. From the interactive wall in the admissions building to the artwork graffitied around campus to the large green spaces, the Green Line Stop, rubbing

My rite of passage was coming to Randolph-Macon. As I arrived at Randolph-Macon College on September 1st to begin my freshman year of college, I could not do anything but shake from being so nervous. My parents kept telling me that everything would come together and I would fit right in. I had never felt so out of place. Coming from a small private school, with a graduating class of 30, I could not bear to meet a freshman class that was as bigger than my hometown or my k-12 school. It was like I was a nightmare and no matter how many times I pinched myself, I could not wake up. I was trapped here without any friends or a vehicle to escape.…

When I first started at Napa College, I knew that getting involved was going to be very important. However, I didn't know it was going to be a lot more complicated on my behalf to do so. This is because, when I first came to Napa Valley college, I had also just obtained my first job. The job which would allow me to help sustain myself and help my family financially. I was not used to this type of schedule when I first came into Napa College. This Is because I didn't know how to manage my time, and simply didn't know what to make as my major primary. Throughout every college experience there are two sides to every story. The text made me realize, through vivid examples that I remember learning when I was younger, such as the gods and the giants, something that I have been told since I was young. That I have to always think twice before I think say or do anything.…

My love for Marquette University started with the campus. Being nestled in the heart of Milwaukee, Marquette feels like a close-knit community, but has an open, urban vibe. During my first campus trip I toured all of the main buildings, and was particularly impressed by the new engineering building. The tour guides encouraged questions from prospective students. They didn’t give us canned responses, or answer from a script; instead they gave thoughtful and concise answers that showed what Marquette is all about. Marquette’s prestigious engineering department, academic excellence, and famed namesake all led me to want to attend more than any other school.…

My parents advised me not to attend my local community college because it lacked a focus on creating a challenging academic environment. The obvious choice for me became Liberty University, which boasted in becoming the largest Christian university in America. With only three hours, separating me from home and many of my friends also applying there, Liberty appeared to be the best option. Despite Liberty’s many advantages, I kept looking for the perfect college.…

The event that I choose to follow summer fest was a simple and casual visit to the wellness and recreational center, fancy way of saying the gym. Upon my first ever visit to Florida International University I still remember at our freshmen orientation entering the gym and thinking to myself this seems like a place that I will be visiting often during my four year tenure at school. And boy was I right, the facility was clean and professional looking very much like a professional gym would appear, the staff where all kind and ready to assist you if help was ever necessary, something that I truly valued. I was extremely exited to take a spinning class at the FIU gym, I had only ever heard positive reviews and I was looking forward to the experience as well. Personally I am obsessed with fitness so any class, or activity is something that I love to experience which is what drove me to experience the class myself, and did, I love it. When I got out of that class I was sweating so much, I felt like I had gone on a run around the world and it so amazing, the instructor knew exactly what she was doing and had no problem helping you out if you needed it, the music was fun and exiting extremely up tempo. Overall I can only rave about the experience, it was positive and motivational. It has truly inspired me to no matter how stressed I may be I can always go down to the gym and relieve my stress while gaining a benefit as well.…

My time at the community college was used to focus on building a strong academic foundation, specifically tutoring international students English every week as they tried to maneuver through their lives in the United States. I remember during one particular session, a Chinese exchange student told me that when she first arrived in Seattle, she was in a state of euphoria. However, her inability to communicate fluently with her peers hindered her from adapting to the customs in America. Consequently, it impeded her from making her own place in society. Another individual, who emigrated from Eritrea, confessed she was still unfamiliar with having additional resources at her fingertips. She grew up in an area where advanced technological tools,…

What I love the most about Tufts is the relaxed and accepting atmosphere among the student body, which is also reflected in the liberal arts education offered to students. Unlike other schools, my identity won’t just be defined by my major. At Tufts, I can be an artist as I take ceramics classes at SMFA, but also a scientist as I explore psychology. Tufts is a place where stereotypes are broken and differences are welcomed, and I know that when I go to Tufts, I am going to feel like I belong.…
