Personal Narrative: Another Dog
“A dog is the only thing on Earth that loves you more than he loves himself,” said famous 19th- century author Josh Billings. This companion will love our family and will keep us company until it goes with Jesus. A dog, everyone’s best friend, will comfort us through our atrocious and satisfying days. I really want another dog to join our family. I feel our family should get one more dog because it would comfort mom and I. When our dog passes away, we will have an extra dog to comfort us throughout the tough time. Let’s say Kinley passes away, mom isn’t taking it very well, and we have another dog to help us get through his loss. The new dog could cuddle with mom and I. My family dog is a hairless Chinese Crested named Sid. He is a gray, white, and black dog with no hair except on his head, paws, and the tip of his tail. We rescued Sid 8 years ago from Detroit, Michigan. His owners left him outside in the freezing cold when they moved away. They abandoned him. Adopting Sid changed my life forever. By caring for him, I have learned loyalty, responsibility, love, compassion, and patience. These are traits I see and feel within him as well. I believe animals mirror God’s hope and love for us. For example, God wants us to forgive others who have done us harm. Sid has forgiven his original owners by moving beyond the shy and fearful dog he was when we first brought him home. He is a happy and joyful dog now.…

Max was my best friend. He was a very lively golden retriever with a golden brown body and a white chest. My father got the dog before I was born, and just when he meets my mom. I remember feeding him table scraps and my mom getting mad because he shouldn’t have table scraps. When I was 3 years old he would snuggle with me before I went to bed, but after I got a bunk bed then he would just sleep on the floor of my room. My sister didn’t really get to see him much because he was still a baby when he had to be put down.…

It all began when a was a little boy and all I wanted was a dog, for years I begged and begged, and still no dog. I felt as if I was incomplete without one, I had even written persuasive essays in school on why I should get a dog and waited and just hoped for it. Finally, when I was in 5th grade, I found a church ministry where we met once month and came up with ideas to raise money for the local rescue. During the meetings, we would also go for a walk, those who had animals would walk them. One time, somebody from the rescue came with one of the rescue dogs for the walk, which inspired me to go to the rescue and check it out.…

I was never a dog lover. My kids always wanted a dog. I dug my heels in but eventually, they wore me down with chorus’ of “please can we get a dog?” Begrudgingly, I began looking for a dog. Farmington, New Mexico 2003, 11 years old and in love with my broken down racehorse, his name was Gentleman or “Gentleman Hawk” according to his papers. We had gotten Gentleman from a sale barn for a measly 400 dollars, he was in real bad shape but my father and I nursed him back to health. When Gentleman was at full health I would run him across the pasture, back and forth until it was dark or my parents called me for supper, it was a time in my life with few worries and very little stress but this horse just brought me so much joy, it was a relationship that I look back on and cherish. Horses had always been such a big part of my families’ life and since I was the only child in the family who would go ride on his own, I really…
