Personal Narrative: Art Can Be Anything
Art Can Be Anything

As you look at the paper, you may see a mess of colors and think how in the world can this be a painting? Once you look and think deeper about what the picture could be, the true meaning is revealed.
The intricate lines of my fingerprints are clearly visible.
All of the fingerprint patterns and the details from each handprint are created differently. Each handprint is not the same.
I can feel the generous amount of paint spreading all over my palm and up to my fingers. The smooth, silky paint makes me feel calm and every stressful thought vanishes.
As I slap my hand on the paper that lay before me, I have no idea where my hand will land, or what image my hand will create.
The colors all printed on the paper:
Yellow, pink, blue, and purple.

Some are combined with others. It is not bothersome that some colors blend together. Beauty came out of the chaos of colors.
Repeatedly, as my hand slaps the paper, I can feel the paint leave my fingers and transfer to the once white sheet. I continually add more and more paint to my hand. Each individual print is not the same.
As I finish, I notice my own unique handprint and how it just created a picture. A picture that looks almost like a sun setting and the darkness that follows.
Each squiggle and curve of my fingerprints created something like no other.
My messy painting is full of abstract patterns and detail that makes the picture a piece of art. It isn't just a mess of colors on a white piece of paper. It took effort and creativity to produce something that has purpose. Art is full of creativity, and

    - A fingerprint may be small and unnoticeable to the eye, and even look like many other peoples, but they are in fact very different. Every fingerprint has a different pattern that is unique and unlike anyone else’s. I compared two fingerprints and found that they may look alike from afar, but up close one goes one way, while the other does something else and completely different.…

I really like that you focused on impressionism in your paragraph. I was really impressed and inspired by how it came to be. A group of artists that were rejected time aft time by the Salon, which was the by all to end all art show of the time, banded together in a way and produced their own version of art and became huge movement an respected art style. Art to me is all about self-expression, and I can’t think of a better part of one’s self to express than the ability to handle setbacks gracefully. These inspiring young artists took rejection and turned it into something beautiful and creative, rather than let it defeat them. I really admire that.…

Artists who willfully damage or manipulate a print for creative purposes are addressing this careless attitude. The decision to make the print part of their methodology rather than solely the end product opens up a completely new way of making art in photography. Allowing the print to be as a blank canvas is to a painter brings a new dimension to saturated medium. This bring the preciousness back to photography, these works are one off, irreplaceable ‘objects’.…

With my passion of art, empathy for others burdens, and enthusiasm I intend to change America for the better through my occupation as an Art Therapist. I hope to not only help my patients battle varying hardships, but also fight society’s negative stigma towards those who have mental illness. Our country often views mental illness as a defect, causing the person affected to want to hide or be ashamed of who they are. Instead I hope to shed light on the prevalence of mental illness in American society while supporting and empowering my patients to embrace their illness through creativity and express themselves openly. Only if we learn to see the positive implications of America’s diversity, including those affected by mental illness, will our…

After I gathered the paint, glitter, and feathers that I felt so inclined to grab (especially the glitter!), I sat down with all the materials and let them inspire me to make the first paint stroke. Once I began painting, the creativity just flowed from my soul and out through my hands to create a piece of art that, surprisingly, was able to somewhat resemble the concept I had in mind going into class. While I am not an artist by any means, I felt proud of my work!…

There were certain things I wanted to work on, after getting my grade for my Visual essay. I wanted to focus on staying on topic because that was one of the things that I struggled with and got points taken off because of that. I also wanted to work on my comma splices, and punctuation, which I usually struggle with and got points taken off. I also wanted to improve working on my tone, and the way I write or express myself while writing because sometimes, I get comments from the Writing Center, and from my professor. In my Rebuttal Essay, I think I did a very good job of staying on topic and worked on my context well. But I also struggled still with my comma splices, because I put all my focus on the content of the paper, and had little or…

In kindergarten you could probably remember finger painting; wasn't it fun? I think it was. Everywhere we go we always see pictures and drawings by different people. When I was young my mother will always buy me different coloring books and give me crayons so I can learn how to color. As I grew older my drawing skills expand. In elementary up to this present time I’ve always been in art classes. The art classes that I have help me to be a better artist. It gives me a new sense of drawing skills and experience different styles of art. When I am in one of my moods I draw. If I’m sad I draw a sad picture, if I’m mad I draw a mad picture. Get It? Drawing gives me the ability to make my own ideas.…

Here, the surrounding space of hand shape is painted. They are made by pressing the hand with fingers spread apart against the wall, and then blowing or spitting pigment on to the hand and the surrounding area (Stockstad, M. 1995). When the hand is removed an outline is left, the hand here serves as a negative version of a stencil. Two techniques were used to do this, firstly the hand was placed on the area of wall where the imprint was required and the paint spat out of the mouth to create a stencil affect. Another method was the use of reed straw or hollow bones to blow the pigment-like paint onto the wall (Stockstad, M & Cothren, M. W. 2010).…

They had common features - same age, women, on-the-job and not good at drawing. What I Do Best

Henry Ward Beecher said, “Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.” That's exactly truth. Artists paintings always express their mood in their works; I also express my feeling into my painting. For me painting is the easiest way to relax. I can use a lot of colors to explain anger, happiness, sadness, surprise, or anything in my life. The other reason I love painting is I don't need to limit myself. I can freely sway pigment on paper. I don't need to care about others opinion or their scolding. That's the secret space for me.…
