Despite non-selection, my pursuit of this prestigious and challenging position will not be deterred. My naval career, I have continually sought positions of greater responsibility and produced exceptional results in each of those positions. While I take great pride in being a Chief Petty Officer, I feel the experience I have acquired as a Chief will benefit any wardroom I am a member of. It is important to note that I did not submit an LDO-CWO package for FY-14 due to the time constraints I experienced while standing up Naval Beach Unit SEVEN with an under staffed office and operational commitment.…
Back when I was five my parents got divorced why did they will because they would fight all the time and my mom was tired of it and she didn’t want us to hear it so they got divorced. After all the fighting and when they got divorced then we moved to a different location in emporia. We stayed at our house in emporia for a little while then after 2 months past we moved to Newton which was where all my family was on my mom's side. In one whole year i’ve been to three different schools Reading Kansas, Emporia, and Newton. Ever since I got here in Newton I have not moved since. I have been happy here in Newton the other schools I went to I didn’t like I always wanted to move to Newton where my family is. I am here now and I just visit my dad…
For my friend's birthday, we went to sociology. He picked me up from my house, with his two other friends carter and Geo. Edens dad dropped us off and we started. The mission we were doing was the Cuban missile crisis. We had to get the launch codes before the commander got back in 1 hour. Two of the coolest parts where a telephone that we had to take apart and a fake bookshelf. The hardest part was the locks. It was agonizing looking at the timer every few seconds. We didn't really get started until about halfway in. Even them, we were screaming and yelling at each other. Eventually, after we had used all our hints and we had about 10 seconds left, we got out. If you get out you get a bracelet saying which one you bet. It was my second time,…
I broke my arm today while getting on the freight train. Thank God I still have an arm unlike some of the other I have meet who have lost an arm or leg and some even know someone who has lost their life ( Riding the Rails). I have done this a couple of time now and I shouldn't have been so anxiety about it but I was. I hide under the track outside the yard like I normally do, waiting for the train to reach momentum so I could get on. I forgot to check for the bull guards who are hired to keep hoboes from jumping on freight. I guess I got too comfy with my environment( Riding the rails). Right when I was getting on the trains, I heard the bull guards yelling and chasing after me. It threw me off my balance and I nearly fell off the train. I…
People often ask me, “do you play basketball or volleyball? Because you’re really tall.” As a six-foot-tall girl, I find that people are disappointed when I tell them “no, not anymore.” I was always told by coaches and parents that “you have potential,” but basketball, much to my dad’s dismay, was not for me. I found that I had the potential to do something with my life, to be someone bigger than myself. My freshman and sophomore years, I did not want to be involved in my school. Rather I wanted to get in and get out and go to college. But all that changed when I decided I wanted to be a Link Crew Leader, at the time I did not know what it meant to be a link leader, I just knew I wanted to be one.…
I was a camp counselor at Camp Wabikon ‒ a co-ed overnight summer camp located in Temagami, Ontario for children who are 6-15 years of age. Along with teaching Red Cross swimming and lifesaving and Tennis, I was my cabin's 'parent' for six weeks. Therefore, I was present with the children at all times. In essence, I was the leader of my cabin's the physical, social and mental development. The main things I learned were the importance of time management and organization , as I had to plan lessons for swimming and Tennis while taking care of my cabin; conflict resolution between campers; and the ability to plan and foresee events (I had to plan camp-wide events and activities for all campers).…
The Cold War happened between the years of 1945 and 1991, it was a time of military, political, and economic tension between the Soviet Union and the United States. Just after the second World War had ended, complications came up around the area of international power, who would gain more power and who would lose power. The main thing the Soviet Union attempted to do during this shifting of power was they tried to gain more territory in order to solidify their spot as a world wide power, while the United States attempted to limit the territory gained by the Soviet Union. The multitude of ideological differences separated the two countries as well, especially in the years coming after the second World War, during that time the American government…
The Space Race After fighting alongside each other in the Second World War to defeat a common enemy, differing political ideologies resulted in high tensions between the United States and the U.S.S.R. The Soviet communist government, initiated during the Bolshevik Revolution, posed a direct threat to the goal of the United States to spread democracy and capitalism across the globe. These rising tensions manifested themselves in the form of the Cold War-a series of conflicts and antagonism between the two nations that did not involve any direct warfare between the two opposing powers but surprisingly lasted for more than thirty years. In the United States it can be known as lasting for nine presidential administrations from Truman until the…
As soon as my friend Sam informed me of the upcoming mission trip to Illinois, my heart immediately started to race with excitement. Millions of questions raced through my head: where was the trip, when was the trip, how many days, who was going?…
During the late 1950s to the mid 1970s, the US and the Soviet Union, the two Cold War rivals, engaged in a Space Race, a fierce competition for supremacy in spaceflight capability. The Soviet Union achieved an early lead in the Space Race by launching the first artificial satellite into the space with Sputnik 1. The United States quickly followed suit three months later with the launch of Explorer 1. Unsatisfied with being the second to reach space, President John F. Kennedy set his sights for a much higher goal: the Moon. In 1961, President Kennedy announced a national goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the decade. Eight years later, the goal was actualized with the Apollo 11 mission. In the years between, there were copious technological…
When asked in class every year which subject I admired the most, my answer was always “none”. Although the grades in my core curriculum classes were always excellent, I never found interest in the basic subjects. Math was a bunch of numbers with letters, science just reviewed our bodies and the how the world was believed to be through one scientist theories and history repeated itself, constantly. As a freshman, I contemplated tremendously over what major and career I would pursue for the rest of my life. I never knew there were more subjects than just science, English, math and history until the day my mother introduced me to unraveling my creativity in the summer.…
When I was nine I moved to Newark, New Jersey from Ecuador to have a better life. The whole time I was in Newark my mother would always tell me to study hard and go to college because I can do anything I could in this country. At that age I had different plans and having a successful career wasn’t on my to do list. I joined the military at the age of 18 to explore the world and leave Newark, because it wasn’t a good place to live. After joining and going through training I did travel to different places around the world and college was still not on my priority list. You see everything different when your 18 and don’t have anyone to tell you what to do with your off time. I did everything fun that I can think of and decided that I would just retired in the military and not worry about school anymore.…
My personal mission statement is to be the best that I can be and work hard to help others be the best they can be. This statement is important to me because I have always found that I am at my best when I am helping people, whether its helping people at my job or at the grocery store. There are many things that fall into place with that, which to me, mainly includes education, because I am a student and I work in a college where I work with students and I listen to their problems and relate to them. So education is very important in general, but to me Community and Industry Education is very important and important to a lot of people. First off I have attended Tarrant County College and I have gained so much from that experience. I have gained…
Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…
