Personal Narrative: Canadian Figure Skating Competition
I was right there; This is the moment. One last time around and then I, Pari Singh, am about to win the Canadian Figure Skating Competition. If I just land this jump perfectly, then I will be in the lead. I did it, but I could feel my leg swoop out. Wait, I thought to myself, this isn’t right. My skate didn’t touch the ice yet. I felt as if I were falling a long, long way down . . . then plunk.
I had fallen down to some place I had been before, in a dream. “This has to be the place,” I told myself in a firm voice. It was snowy and decorated for Christmas. This is it. I decided I should explore the village, then I realized where I needed to go: the shop I found in my dream. I needed to get to the shop that sold the special skates that I have wanted for years, but I couldn’t afford them. All I knew was they were sold there; I didn’t know the price.

I saw a nearby coffee shop. I was tempted to go there, but no, I had to stay in the bitter cold, looking for the shop. “I have seen this place before!” I excitedly announced to myself. Then, I thought to myself, If I find my way back to the skating arena where the contest is being held, I could still win the competition with my new skates. It was starting to get colder outside, but worst of all, darker too.
“Well, I have got a choice,” I said to myself, “I can go to sleep or go into the cold night.” Well, there is a motel close by, so why not take a little rest? Maybe I wouldn’t get back in time for the competition, but I still wanted the skates and nothing could stop me from looking for

I was a Freshman on the Salem Varsity Gymnastics team, and practice consisted of preparing the team for regionals. An unknown pain in my back wound me up in the trainer's office for an hour of the two and a half hour practice. After finishing the season strong, even though I wanted to give up countless times, pushing myself to work through the pain paid off at regionals. Even though I should have stopped because I made the pain and recovery time longer, I refused to give up on my team the week before regionals. The minute season ended, I decided to go see my doctor, he said I pulled a muscle, and the solution was rest, heat, and ice.…

The most memorable thing that happened to me was when I first discovered what I’m really good at. I came across inspiring Youtube videos of old classic Roller Derby and recent ones that were published only a year ago, I knew from the moment I laid eyes on those quads that I had to try it. In less than two weeks I was a complete natural at skating, I was all about skates. I practiced all the derby stances, exercises, techniques you name it I am absolutely in love with this sport. but as much as I fantasized about doing it I never thought that I’d actually get the chance to be part of their world and have training by the Derby Dames Juniors Freshmeat Association crew, which are ranked the top thirty-one in the united states!…

Playing Ice Hockey was a burning passion of mine. It all started in the cold and dense locker room. Practice had just finished up and we were inside the locker room getting undressed. I was a forward on the team and was only ten years old. The team goalie was sick and was not going to be able to make our game the next day. Coach asked “Is anyone willing to play goalie for our game?” and I, the young ten year old boy I was; was the first person to quickly respond saying “I will!” Playing goalie was destined for me, I was a star and very talented.…

I saw the blur of black before I heard the screech of my tires on the scorching summer concrete. The crunching sound of metal on metal rang through my ears. I felt the frigid cold of my dairy treat hit my bare legs. My body jerked as the car swerved towards the highway. 1 hour earlier, 9:00 pm on a mundane Friday night, I was lounging around with my closest friend when an idea popped into my mind. “We should go get Dairy Queen!” I suggested to Gracie, my weary friend next to me. She gave me a cheshire smile and we were off. Little did we know, things were about to head downhill. Literally.…

I have experienced many failures in my life but one stuck out to me more than others. I have wrestled since I was 8 years old. Through all my matches I have wrestled in my life, something hit me. My sophomore year I worked really hard to make it to the state tournament. Going into the sectional tournament, my record was 19-3. I had a by the first round which put me in the semi-finals. After winning my semi-finals match 12-4, that put me in the finals against a kid I wrestled 3 times before this. He pinned me the first time we wrestled and the next 2 times we wrestled I pinned him. Going into this match I had a lot of confidence because I knew I could win. I underestimated the want he had to win. He surprised me and came out strong. My sectional…

When I was in second grade I learned that I loved competing with people and being good at things. I joined a gymnastics gym near my house in second grade when i was 9, and started competing when i was 10. My mom told me that I have to do well in school if I was going to be focused on a sport along with school, or she would take me out of gymnastics. Soon enough, I wasn’t doing so well in social studies and comm skills. I was scared my mom would make me quit, But I worked as hard as I could so get back up there. Focusing more on school than outside activities, I got that grade back up and I continued with my favorite sport. I started figure skating when I was 8 years old. I went to a birthday party at an ice rink, and signed up for skating shortly after. More advanced skaters filled the middle of the rink, doing spins and jumps. I fell in love the sport. I like how it was good for both summer and the winter. The feeling of you gliding around the ice in fun-filled strokes was amazing. My classes were amusing and I loved learning new things.…

I have been skating since I was four, barely clinging on to the walls back then. My dad used to take my sister Daisy and me to a skating rink almost every weekend in the winter. We taught ourselves how to skate fast, stop, and whatever else. However, it wasn’t until the end of seventh grade that we finally decided to take lessons. One March morning my dad drove us to an unknown rink. Pulling our skating bags onto the bleachers to tie them, we looked around at the busy rink. Finally it was time to go on. I hesitantly skated on to the ice, my sister a few strokes behind me. A girl in front of me wobbled towards her coach, her head barely as high as my knee. Pausing to look around the rink, I noticed an ocean of children much shorter than I, either jumping or spinning expertly. I looked over at Daisy, noticing that she and I stuck out, being the same height as the coaches. Daisy looked both confused and hopeless, also noticing the age gap and the skills of many of the younger kids. My sister and I were clearly…
