physically paying the bills, my mother would withdraw the money from the bank, and mail out the bills (however now most is done via the internet). My mother was also the one all members of my family would turn to for emotional support and advise. While both my parents were open, my mother was obviously more available because she didn't work, so it naturally appointed her to the emotional supporter. Most indoor household duties were my mothers, she did the laundry, cleaning, and cooking on weekdays. My father tended to the property and made family dinners on the weekend. Overall when it came to household balance, I believe as my parents grew older, and my father retired, a more clear balance of power is now established. As I grew up my dad maintained the financial means to which allowed the bills to be paid. So I would say he held the financial power, and my mother held the emotional power. Wolf's idea of the domestic arrangement was something that existed in my home yet still bordered a cusp in certain aspects. My dad had areas he frequented most like the basement, garage, and shed. These areas weren't like the “man cave” term you hear so often today, they were just places in my home you were more likely to find him at. These spaces housed all his machinery, tools, cars, motorcycle, ATV, and boat equipment. When it came to my mom she had a room that doubled as a guest room and craft supply room. My mother was artistic and did a lot of stained glass work, and this room was where she did most of her creating at. I think Wolfs idea still applies today, for example the term “Man Cave” that I mentioned above, I believe this is a modern rendition of her domestic room arrangement idea.
Coinciding with the pictures below, I have some family members who have real appointed rooms for that separate the men and women. The men typically have offices, sports rooms, or smoking rooms and the females sometimes have a craft room, or large walk in closet that might be her beauty room. On popular websites like Pinterest I often see people wit board names called “The Man Cave.” I can apply phenomenon this to my sister and brother-in law. My brother-in-law has a room with a door that reads “The Cave” on the outside, and my sister has some decals on the outside that say D's room (short for Danielle). I always thought this was so bizarre, yet it brings home the idea that Wolfs Concept is still thriving amongst us today.
