Personal Narrative: Coming Out Of Depression
For what felt like 5 years… “So it was difficult to include it, but the reason I started making videos was because I was coming out of depression and I thought there’s probably so many people out there who experience the exact same thing and no one talks about it.” Lilly says. According to Merriam Webster, “ Depression is a serious medical condition in which a person feels very sad, hopeless, and unimportant and often is unable to live in a normal way.” According to people.com, “Lilly was studying to be a psychologist focused on getting her master's degree, and tickling all the grown-up boxes we think we’re suppose to.” Singh became deeply depressed during her last year. For what “felt like 5 years” a cloud hopelessness took over. Then, she found youtube. …show more content…

“I noticed that youtube didn’t really have someone like me speaking out. There was no South Asian representing, really.” Lilly says. “I hate playing the race card, but especially as a South Asian female, it’s really not talked about in my community at all, any type of mental illness.” Singh says. According to TeenVouge.com, Singh said, “When I was coming out of depression, I made one random video. It wasn't funny or anything, but just the idea that people I didn’t know were watching made me feel less alone that I’d felt in a long time.” “I really wanted to do something positive and something that reminds not only myself, but other people, that life has up and downs but, it can be beautiful and you can put yourself back up.” Singh says. Now Lilly is using what she has been through to start a campaign called Girl
