Personal Narrative: Crossing The Border
In March of 2007, I entered the United States illegally. Prior to this, I had been deported twice. Crossing the border was very dangerous, but I had to do it because in Mexico we are very poor. My father passed away 21 years ago, and my mom was left a widow with 11 children. My oldest brother moved out of the house, so I had to step up and help my mom raise my siblings. Where I’m from, there aren’t many jobs available, only on the fields and the pay wasn’t enough to support us. I didn’t want to cross the border, but I had no other choice. I ask for your forgiveness for breaking the immigration law by crossing the border and living in America illegally.
While living here, I met Ma Luisa Arellano Sanchez who I married and we had two children, Jonathan Alexander Rios and Josh Rios. She also has an

Ever since this happened, I’m always worried about my wife’s safety. Every time I open the front door, I check that there is no one outside waiting for my wife to hurt her. We always try not to talk about this in front of our children because we don’t want them to feel scared. We’ve been able to get through this by supporting each other as a couple.
Again, I ask for your forgiveness. I’d like to be able to be here by my family’s side to protect them. If I had to move back to Mexico, my family would come with me. I don’t wat for my children to grow up in Mexico. There’s too much crime there. A lot of people die because of the organized crime. Young children are raped and then murdered. It’s not a safe country and the police don’t do anything to protect anyone. There’s no good healthcare. The schools don’t care about their students.
I ask for your forgiveness for being in this country illegally. This is my children’s country. I don’t want for my children to live in poverty and go through the struggles and hardship that I had to go through during my childhood in Mexico. I thank you for your time and

Most everybody wants a better life for their children than the one they have for themselves. The story of a young man I met and got to know over the years is no different. Tomas was born in a small town near Juarez, Mexico, where the violence and crime were growing every year. Tomas knew he had to get to the United States, where he felt he would find safety and a chance for a better life for his family. I met Tomas at a local Mexican restaurant several years ago in my hometown.…

For this assignment I interviewed Omar Bretado. He is a 25-year-old male who migrated to the United States with his family at the age of twelve. He and his family, like most immigrant families, came to the United States in hopes of a better future. Omar and his family migrated from Zacatecas, Mexico to Dallas, Texas. Omar tells me that he is glad that he was given such a wonderful opportunity when he came here. In Mexico, he lived with his three siblings, parents, grandparents, and a few aunts and uncles. The house was divided into three areas so that everyone could have a bit of privacy. I decided to interview Omar because he was able to shed some light on the differences he experienced between Mexico and the United States. Only having been here half of his life he has accomplished many things. He has finished his education, gotten a well-paid job, and has become a citizen of the United States. Although Omar had fun living in Mexico, he says that he would not change anything in his life. He is grateful for the time he was able to be in his home country and for the cultural that was instilled upon him all of his life.…

Being an undocumented student has lead me to the most amazing community of Dreamers! I can say without a doubt that many of my problems are because of my immigration status but today I understand that the most amazing gift I have been given is a tough life! It was that struggle that made me a leader because it made me love and fight, more importantly it gave me a purpose. A socially responsible leader is one who has a passion beyond herself. As a dreamer I have struggled and failed to many times to count but that to is a gift because now I have a story to share. A degree means more to me than a fancy car, it is knowledge, that will grant me power in the form of an echoing voice, to offer relief for the many lives that parallel my own. At this…

First of all, it is my responsibility to hope for a better tomorrow. Approximately 395 years ago, the Pilgrims landed on a strange land that we call America. They came, believing in and hoping for the life that they dreamed of. Ever since then, people have come with that shared hope – a hope “for what tomorrow will bring, not for what yesterday has taken away.” I am certain that the Pilgrims and immigrants who came to America held tightly to this vision. They were filled with the hope that this “New World” would offer them a better way of life. Here, they hoped for a chance to dream and for a chance to believe in their future. America must have seemed like a Promise Land to the weary travelers. They hoped for economic opportunity, freedom from persecution,…

Every year a large amount of children and women take on the challenge of traveling to the United States, some legally, some illegally. Considering the risks women and children take everyday living in Central America, coming the the United States is a very big opportunity and uncertainty they are willing to take. It does not surprise me that an immense amount of people make the trip to America because of the positive possibilities mothers are given when arriving, especially when they come to make money to support loved ones they left behind. Although this decision is not surprising and is well understood, i do not agree with this choice that is made.…

My dad was fifteen years when he did something I can never even imagine about doing; he crossed the border. He sacrificed so much in order to live a better life, without him I would not be writing this essay right now. My mother is a first generation Mexican-American, like myself, and also experienced the affects of her parents wanting more for their family. Fortunately for us, our family has strived in today’s society and would not be where we are without hardwork and dedication.…

Leaving your country is always a difficult decision, and whoever has experienced it understands the sacrifice it entails. When I left Poland at 18, I thought I was going to be in paradise, but to my disappointment it was far from that. I had to learn a new language and work hard to provide for myself. What kept me motivated was the hope for a better future and an independent life.…

“Statistics do not tell the story of immigration. People do. Since its inception, this nation has been continually infused with the energy of newcomers. Yet their assimilation has seldom been smooth. The challenges we face today are not new. Only the stories are” (“My Immigration”). Illegal immigration is a big problem in the United States. Immigration is when people migrate to other countries other than their own. Stories are trying to be told, but no one seems to listen or even care. No one understands the sacrifices different families make. According to Ivonne, she was only a few months old when her and her family moved over to the United States from Mexico. Her mother believed it bring more opportunity to live a more comfortable, rewarding,…

Thousands around the county gathered this past Saturday for immigration reform with a message of Dignity and Respect. As I stood at the immigration rally here in Dallas Reverchon Park to show support. I thought, what is my community doing? When the hell did my parent's "Si Se Puede!" turn into a civil disobedience that would lead to an arrest? With my work clothes, right after a meeting in Dallas, I stood there and judged what seemed to be the faces of my neighbors, my friends, my fellow dreamer peers and my own family. As I continued to take pictures merely for the satisfaction of receiving a few Facebook likes on my videos and pictures, I realized that America has given my community and the millions of other undocumented individuals in this country no other choice. They were taking extreme measures like blocking traffic, screaming and being arrested.…

Good Afternoon my fellow classmates, many of us are immigrants or have family members that have immigrated into this country seeking a better life. Now, how many have entered this country illegally? Illegal immigration is a very popular topic in America right now not only because of the 2016 presidential elections, but because of the global problems we face today that force people to enter this country illegally. The truth is, America is built on the foundation of illegal immigrants; immigrants that continuously provide for our country and introduce Americans to diverse cultures that would allow for connections with foreign countries and expand the economy’s financial status. However, under certain circumstances some immigrants enter this country for the wrong reasons, some looking to cause destruction or disruption, however there is a greater percentage of immigrants who come into America seeking a better life. As a mexican born immigrant I have been exposed to the dreadful living conditions in Mexico where kids begin…
