I climbed up the play structure and went down the slide. And we all played tag in the baseball field. Somebody tagged someone too hard and fell and scraped his knee. He put a band-aid on and said “ I can't run” but then he jumped to his feet and chased me. The tag game ended and I lost. Then we were ready to…
Cyclone Debbie had a massive impact on Queensland and the environment. The cyclone caused floods all throughout Queensland which had damaged the land. The damaged land couldn’t support growing food which was a major impact to farms. The flooding didn’t impact farms it had a major impact on the animals that lived in Queensland. Multiple habitats were lost and animals started dying because the wasn’t any more sustainable area to live in. The high winds were a major cause in the damage of the Great barrier reef with winds reaching up to 200km/h damaging the coral above ground. The build-up of flood water near the coast ended up in the great barrier reef, killing a great portion of the…
At the headquarters of the Louisiana National Guard, located in the lower 9th ward, the soldiers were not yet aware that the canal levees were giving way. The Guard’s commander was monitoring the situation from Baton Rouge. He was given misleading information.…
After we warmed up it was time to play the final game. We were the home team so we were in the field first. I was playing center field and it was so hot outside that I felt like I was going to melt. When the umpire yelled, ”Play Ball!” I jumped up on my feet and was ready for the first pitch. On the very first pitch the batter hit the ball straight to me. I watched the ball go up in the air and I was putting my glove up in the air ready to catch the ball but then I lost track of it. My sunglasses did not help me with the sun. I was trying to find the ball, but then SMACK! The ball hit me straight in the mouth and I fell to the ground like a sack of…
Softball isn’t just a sport, it’s a passion. Last year, in a softball game, I tripped and cause us to get all three outs. My team, as well as my coach, was very upset. As a consequence, I sat the next two innings out. Sitting alone and thinking about how my mistake could cost us the game, I felt as though I needed to prove to my team that I didn’t mean to and that I could help get the game back. I finally convinced my coach to let me back in the game. An inning had gone by I still hadn’t proven myself. I was getting nervous. Bottom of the ninth, my chance came. Playing shortstop, a ground ball was headed straight for me. I caught it, and threw it to first. First then through it to third, and I tagged the runner coming from second base. A triple play! We were three points ahead and had won the game. I had such a feeling of self-accomplishment and pride. I had proven to the team that I was a…
Hurricane Katrina swept away the gulf coast on August 25, 2009. Katrina was the most monstrous storm that has ever visited the coast and was considered an amalgam of tropical waters and dusty winds. It was the deadliest hurricane of category five causing horrendous damage and traumatizing scenes. Many lives were taken away and many lives have changed.…
One day my coach pulled me to the side and told me I was going to be the quarterback for the game. I thought I was going to die! I never played quarterback so I was very nervous about messing up. I instantly became sick and thought about leaving the game. My mom was on the sideline, so I went over to her and told her about me being afraid to throw the ball. My mom grabbed me by the shoulders and told me to fight my fear, and focus on being the best quarterback the team ever saw. I turned around, got in the game, they passed me the ball, and I threw the ball directly…
I was about four years old when everything went to chaos and destruction. But what three year old would feel frightened or afraid of ever breath, not knowing if it was their last. As a child, I was ignorant and naive to what was happening around me in the world. I didn’t know that the city surrounding me, would soon be drowned and submerged in the legendary Hurricane Katrina.Though I was only four and couldn't recall many details of the catastrophic event, my mother remembered everything. We had heard two weeks prior ahead of time what was to come, however my mother having always been a strong-willed woman was determined not to leave despite the attempts my grandparents and father made for her to evacuate New Orleans with me and leave.Yet,…
Everyone has peaceful and strange events that occurred in their lifetime. There are several chances that one expects something pleasant to happen and it comes true. On the other side, an occasion doesn’t appear when somebody expects it. I can explain this with my personal account of Hurricane Sandy, an event that occurred on October 29, 2012 and ended on November 2, 2012. This affected the northeast portion of the United States. As a result of this event, I had lost power, had a tough time doing tasks, and took my education away. On the other hand, I was thankful that the disaster ended a few days later.…
Then the other team played and it was a close one and we 1 thought it was fun my mom told me i cried so many time because then after we got home then we got ice cream and me and my mom went to bed.…
I was right at the 5 yard line when the girl on the other team tackle me right to the side line we a got up she patted my shoulder pads and said,” nice run dude you were close but i got you,” all of my team ran to me and were cheering so loud the other team got mad but i did not care it was a home game at the huntley high school. I realized that you should never like celebrate too early or you might not get anywhere and you should all have good sportsmanship to any and any one because you never know what will happen to the person that you did not give the respect to might do. Also it really does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you have fun i say that because the other team were like mad sad and some were even crying because that could be their last game and disappointed in there self you can just see it in there eyes and their actions they they were kicking the turf and tackling each other because they did not make it to the playoffs i ran over there to break it up and i told them it does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you have fun and they said,” yay that's what it's really about thanks,’’ and i ran back to my team and i broke us…
Take the time please, and imagine that everything is okay. I was outside playing on such a beautiful day. I was eight at the time, and was absolutely befuddled by the fact that this lady “Katrina” had everyone in my neighborhood frightened. Could this Katrina that they speak of really be this mean? Who does she think she is? At this point I was determined to meet this “Katrina” not knowing she would change my life without me actually seeing her.…
In seventh grade I wanted to tryout for volleyball. I was very nervous because I had never played it before. I was super happy when I found out all my friends and I made the team. We had a lot of practices in December to get ready for games in January. I was really nervous for our first game. Our first game was supposed to be right after christmas break ended, but we had a snow day so it was cancelled. I wished it hadn’t been so I could just get it over with, but i was gonna have to wait. We were scheduled for another game later that week. I woke up with a phone ringing and an answering machine saying that school was cancelled due to boiler issues. I sat in bed thinking I had once again gotten lucky and we had no game, I was wrong. We were…
It was spring, and the weather was just right for softball season. Friday night, the big stadium lights were shining right down on us. We were actually here I thought to myself we really made it this far. My softball team and I were playing for a chance to go to the state tournament, which was something unexpected coming from a team that was never ranked in pre-season or throughout district but until now. Throughout our season we lost two games against a team that was good, but also had a lot of cockiness. San Rayburn was that team, and it so happened to be the team that we had to play to go to the state tournament as well.…
I had just gotten the basketball passed to me by one of my teammates. At that moment I decided to attempt making a shot. With the ball in my hand, I run into the key to make a basket. Instead the opponent's centers try to block my shot, but I shoot before I crash into them. They were tall, one with white skin and was skinny, the other has light brown skin and was muscular. As I jumped up and released the ball, when I was coming down I see the basketball make it into the hoop. My teammate gives me a high-five and says,” Nice shot.”…
