“Do one thing every day that scares you.”, a quote that Eleanor Roosevelt once chanted. This is something that I once never dreamed of accomplishing. As a child, I was described in three words which included quiet, shy, and a scaredy-cat. These words would slowly disappear after a visit to East Silent Lake Resort, in Dent, Minnesota. It’s a place in which me and my nine family members vacationed to three years ago, when I was thirteen years old. This visit to the resort was during a humid summer. During this visit, I learned a valuable lesson that helped me understand how this statement can help people grow, like it helped me. My mind went through a long debate, either take a chance and jump, or stay put. I usually would stay seated and wait in this circumstance, but I wanted to prove to my cousins and sibling’s that I was cool. I didn’t want to be a scaredy-cat any longer. I stood tall and walked into position. Standing there in my violet bikini, I looked down at the water, and took a deep breath. My knees bent, I pushed up allowing myself to move towards the heavenly sky’s. I was flying above the water like a seagull. I moved my knees so they touched my stomach, then I moved my arms so they cradled my legs. Gravity soon took over and I started to fall towards the mysterious water. The cool substance touched my toes, stomach, and soon I was submerged in the abyss. I rushed to the surface to get a breath of air. I broke through the water with a pearly white smile on my face. I had done it, I was the first of five to face the fear of jumping. A blast of joy interrupted the silence, along with hoots and hollers. My family was so proud of the once cowardly girl.
I will never forget the day I jumped into those deep waters because I learned a valuable lesson. Facing your fears can help you discover new things that you might love. It also taught me that instead of following the crowd, I should create my own path. These two lessons have help me in life. I am now trying as much as I can to try more new things, express myself, and be my own person. That bravery allowing me to jump also has allowed me to be more confident in myself and my unique
