Personal Narrative: Eastview Football
When I stood at the bottom I did not think I could make it. half way up, I knew that I could not make it. Now, standing at the top, I look behind me at the amazing challenge that I have just conquered. Not only is the hill at Eau Claire an infamous feat that every student must traverse, but it is also a metaphor for every hardship that has entered into my life. One hardship I have faced, was my sports injuries during high school. My junior year track season started off being the best experience i’ve had. Unfortunately, this time was cut short. I ripped a ligament in my leg ending my entire spring season. I was angry at the world asking, “why me”. However, I knew I still had a team depending on me. Day in, and day out, I would show up to practice …show more content…
Eastview football is known for its outstanding sports programs, especially its football team. Unfortunately, that does not apply to my class. Our team had put in bone crushing hours in the weight room and on the field since June. There was no doubt in my mind that we wanted to win more than any other team. I wish this story ended with us getting countless wins and making it to state, however, Eastview football lost every single game that year. Even though we did not win a single game, I still refused to give up. I showed up to every single practice, eager to learn, and to make myself better. When I start something, I finish it no matter how hard or how painful it might be. I will bring that same intensity to UW-Eau Claire. There will be countless setbacks in my college career at UW-Eau Claire, but I am going to get through each and every one. My persistence and tenacity will make me thrive in your college, because I will not take the easy way around. I will take each and every painstaking step to see the view from the …show more content…
Some you look forward to the experience. After my tour at UW-Eau Claire my mom, dad, and I went to Davies hall, and talked to some of the students to get a better understanding of why they love Eau Claire. One of the students I was talking to named Shawn opened up a window into the close knit relationships he has at Eau Claire. I took his passion for Eau Claire upon myself, and that is what has driven me to pursue this college. In the four years I attend college I want to develope a family that helps me to grow. Not only will I bring my perseverance to Eau Claire I will also instill it in my peers so they can conquer their own hills. When I look at Eau Claire as a whole I feel excited for the future. Becoming a Blue Gold is a hill that I can not wait to

As a player for the Hanford West basketball team, I was placed into situations that required me to step up and be the leader of the team. One of these situations was during a game when our most talented player had been injured. I know my teammates relied on me to be the one to look up to for all the answers. I was certain I would have to go beyond my capabilities to lead this unit to victory. The game started off horribly because of the evident lack of effort from our team. As the commander of this group of young men I knew something had to change. I stepped out of my comfort zone and became very vocal in order to get some motivation pumping through our veins. Every time my teammates made a play I would be sure to acknowledge them in some way, whether it was a high five or a nod. This made me realize feedback is essential when taking on the leadership role in order to boost self the confidence of others. As the game went on we managed to pull off an outstanding team victory.…

Quite possibly the most significant time of my life was during my senior year as part of the Edison High School football team. The story of our 2006 season is a reflection of my life and testimony to my beliefs and values. Underdogs from day one, we represented not only our school, but also our community and families. Early expectations of the 2006 Eagles were low and the surrounding community was under the belief that Edison would be lucky to go 6-4 with the inexperienced players and the loss of such a talented senior class. Suddenly, I was starting as the outside linebacker/defensive end for the first time in my career along with 18 brand new starters. Unexpectedly, a green group of replacements were 5-0, half-way through our season. After…

It was the middle of the summer and I was playing baseball in Jackson, Mississippi. I was playing for the Goodlettsville All-Stars. We were playing in the little league 10u world series. To get to the championship we had to win 8 games and it was single elimination. We had won 7 out of 8 games and we were playing our 8th game and it was the bottom of the third and I was playing left field. In the second inning I was felling drowsy so my dad gave me a Snickers and a Red Bull. I was for sure not drowsy anymore. I could feel the sugar rushing through my veins and I was on the balls of my feet waiting for the pitch to be thrown. When my pitcher threw the ball I had my hand in my glove ready for the ball if it was hit to me. WHAM! The ball was hit so far up in the air it looked like it hit the sun. When I realized that the ball was coming to me I was way too far back so I had to run as fast as I could and dive for the ball. I jumped as far as I could and stretched as far as I could. I barely caught it by snow coning the ball. Everybody was so proud of me that the screamed as loud as they could. We went on to win the game 4-1. The next day I woke up, jumped out of the bed, and put my uniform on. I was so excited, I was in the championship! I…

I play quarter back for Pensacola Catholic High. To me football is one of the biggest adrenaline rushes you can get. The game is fast and I like that. When I play football I feel unstoppable and I love it. When you play quarterback the game is in your hands and it is up to you to lead your team to victory. You have to make sure your team is focused and prepared. You have to be a good leader to play quarterback. If your team starts loosing you can’t just act sad and give up. You have to do the right thing and give your team a pep talk and tell them to step up their game like a good leader would do.…

“LET’S GO BOYS!!!! LET’S WIN THIS!!! BEAT THESE RAVENS!!!!!!” The crowd was screaming and chanting wildly as we began to run out of the locker rooms and onto the large football field. I lead them, raising my arms up and down to signal the crowd to get louder with their cheers. As I did this, I was also sprinting to the middle of the field through the large slit that was cut for my eyes. I turned back to the crowd in the stands, and the players ran around me, with smiles of their faces, to get to their positions and the bench. I started to jump and raise my arms, “ FROGGY!!! FROGGY!!! FROGGY!!!” They all chanted my name in union, some of them even had signs and horns! A large smile crept onto my face behind my large mascot mask, and I couldn’t…

Eighth grade year, gym class, flag football. I remember this day like it was yesterday. I had a fuming hatred for the gym teachers and their actions toward these pre-pubescent kids who take everything a little too personally, but with these rude teachers each and every reaction from each and every kid was appropriate. The only way I could describe these teachers is 40 year olds who find joy in making 13 year olds miserable. So, it all began when the flag football unit started. I wasn’t afraid of the evil humans we called gym teachers; I spoke my mind. Football was usually the last unit every year and every year the girls had to relearn how to play football, while the boys got to go play outside right away without an ounce of review. Because I am me, this wasn’t going to fly.…

After a long, weary day of work on a Sunday, I always look forward to entering the sports room of the house. Upon leaving work, I rush to my comfortable home. Due to the air conditioner being on all the time , I open the door and feel a cool breeze. I get under the warm , cozy covers and look at the patterns of navy blue and white colors on the wall reminding me of the ocean tides at sunset. Since I like the temperature in the sports room being on a low setting, I also like to drink a cold, refreshing soda. When I turn on my seventy-inch flat screen television, I always change the channel to Sunday Night Football. Watching the Dallas Cowboys is a priority for me on Sunday nights. The thrill of my favorite National American Football team scoring…

By being told to quit something just because I’m not good at it. Back in my 7th grade year when I played football, I was pretty atrocious at everything basically. Trying to run routes against corners, catching, and trying to stay at 110%. I used to play Wide Receiver but they made me change positions because I didn’t try hard enough. They moved me to o-line and I was probably one of the worst players on the team. I only started one game my middle school life as a guard and all I really did was get embarrassed. Missing blocks, not pulling to get the DE, and forgetting the snap count. I didn't play football my 8th grade and my freshman year because my parents said that allergy season was gonna be awful. I was so close to not playing this year,…

I was at a loss of words. While running out of the room, tears flowed. It was a waterfall down my face. I screamed and screamed. I ran outside. The winter air was cold. Gazing across the lush field I lay my eyes on an enthusiastic crowd. Emotional chants rise from their voices but are immediately silenced from my hearing as the referee whistles the ball into play. I bend down to get into my stance, one hand down with my middle fingers balancing me into a running back stance. I feel the sweat dripping down my face and into my eyes causing a sizzling pain that brings my head back into the game. I knew it was only a matter of time, despite that it was only halfway through the third quarter. I had to make the most of the time I had left.…

We weren't just letting ourselves down but also our coach. No one felt the weight of this as much as I did. As the student on our team that had been in speech and debate the longest, I should have been doing better than I was. Me, and the rest of the team, decided to work harder, do better and make our coach proud of us. For me this wasn’t a new feeling. I constantly felt bad that I wasn’t doing as good as I possibly could. I had finally hit my low point and was determined to succeed. There wasn’t much of the season left to improve, but that didn’t stop me from trying. One competition I was a few points away from making finals, the next I semi finaled. The biggest step that year was qualifying for state in Public Forum debate and Impromptu, two of my favorite events. At state me and my partner made octafinals in debate before being eliminated. At the NSDA district tournament, the competition that decides if you will make it to nationals, I was 2nd alternate in student congress.…
