It was December 15, 2007, My daughter's birthday. I was stuck in afghanistan fighting a war. We were patrolling through a town heading back toward our extraction point. I was travelling with the commanding officer, and 4 others we walked for several miles and it was scorching hot. i was just ready to get back to base to get to some food. we hopped over a small wall heading down a road that lead to an abandoned town, machine-gun fire started up, echoing all around me.

i was stuck at the entrance of the gap,which exposed me to the fire.
I remember thinking, “I am going to get hit. please god don’t let me get hit in the head. ” the shots continued, where i was i was able to get an idea where the shots were coming from. We were safe from direct fire, but two soldiers were pinned down through a hole in the wall.
We ran out to firing positions to return fire to the enemy. i spotted two enemies on the building across the street, i put the sights to my eye and fired, two of my bullets jolted into one's chest, he dropped immediately, i locked my sights on the second one.
BLAM! one shot took him down.during the firefight my radio guy made contact with two patrolling fighter jets and they were tracking our battle. I felt my chest for a smoke bomb to signal the jets, i quickly found it and popped the red smoke to show our position and identify friendly from enemy. the jets flew in for the attack on the Taliban machine gunners and used two missiles to take them down and finished the fight. we ran back behind a tree line to avoid the missile blasts the blast rang throughout the treelines about 200 feet from our position and silenced any further contact for the
