Personal Narrative Essay: My Trip To Hawaii
Sitting on the window sill of the open window, I gaze at the spot which was once where the twin towers stood. Then all of a sudden, my wife Lisa walks into the room carrying in this cumbersome luggage from the bedroom. I’m wondering why she is packing on this day after the dreadfulness we had just witnessed. She was adamant to start packing for our trip on Saturday to Hawaii. She didn’t want anything to change. I contemplated to myself she still is in shock. She is feeling guilty that we survived. After all, we had accidently slept in late and didn’t go to work; consequently we missed being on the 20th floor of tower 1. I found her behavior to be completely incongruous to be packing now following the day we experienced. Sitting here

The crash into twin towers is a terrible terrible thing. There isn’t even words to descried how horrible it was. Imagine the families at home watching their fathers and mothers leave the building, up to heaven or out the doors running for their lives. Imagine you were on those planes. The crying and scared children hugging their parents wishing it was a bad dream. Imagine you were the pilot. Knowing you were those innocent people’s last chance and you couldn’t do anything to stop them. As I watched the second plane hit the building I was one year old and in Hawaii. My father was in the San Francisco airport waiting till he could take off to come be with us. I don’t really remember anything but watching it now as a sixteen year old i can only get a glimpse of the terror and fear that many people were feeling that day. When the second plane hit it went through the building and exploded on the other side. The ashes covered everything below. As I see pictures people are soiled with gray and gasping for fresh air as they are running for their lives, It hurts me. I know there is nothing I can do know but pray. Pray for the people who lived through it. Pray for the people who died in it. Even pray for the people who caused it. Twin Towers will never have the same meaning again. Nobody will ever be able to forget that terrible day, I know I never…

A secretary calmly goes about her business, when all of a sudden, a shadow falls over the room, and someone screams, “It’s an airliner! It’s going to hit the tower!” That day, all America realized that this great nation is not invincible. The events of that day have not faded from the minds of Americans, for there has not been attack of this magnitude on American soil since Pearl Harbor. We will never forget the innocent people who died. The tragedy should never be forgotten, so man will remember the brevity of life, his own insufficiency, and the grace and judgment of God. Yet even in the midst of tragedy, the Lord brings hope: stories of courage, selfless sacrifices, and the one plane that was meant to be used for further destruction but the passengers overcame the terrorists, and they saved many lives at the cost of their own.…

Everyone whom I’ve come across since this tragic day has a story to tell, a vivid memory of their exact accounts of that day. For me, when the first plane struck the tower, I shrugged it off as a clip from an upcoming action movie. There was no way an attack in such manner can happen to our country. At the time I was a college freshman, just the fifth day in of me being an “adult”. Upon my arrival on campus, the mood was very somber, another event I did not give too much thought to. Several minutes later, what usually is an early morning class struggling to stay awake and pay attention to the material that was being presented to us, was now a classroom filled with shock, tears and screams. “We are under attack” are the four words that flashed across almost all new stations for what seemed like weeks. The once girl who was excited about embarking on a new journey in adulthood was welcomed with fear, fear that I still live with today, not knowing when and how that next attack would happen.…

Allison recalled that she noticed a change in her thinking after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. She repeatedly thought, “That could have been me in that plane. What would I have done? This is just one more sign that the world has become a very dangerous place.” Allison finds that she can’t relax on her days off because she spends the entire time worrying about taking her next flight. “I worry all the time—about everything. She worries that she will miss the bus to the airport and be late for work. She worried that she will have a panic attack on the…

At around 8:45 am on a Tuesday morning, an American Airlines Boeing crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The plane was loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel leaving a burning gaping hole on impact (“9/11 Attacks”). The statuesque steel-framed tower had 110 floors, where many people were instantly killed and others trapped on the higher levels. Meanwhile in Tower 2, employees were in slight panic as the first building was beginning to collapse before them. They soon believed that it was a freak accident and were told to return back to work. Unfortunately, that was a precaution that should have been rethought. As people watched the unfortunate events in New York, American Airlines Flight 77 circled over downtown Washington, D.C., and slammed into the west side of the Pentagon at about 9:45 a.m. Approximately, 18 minutes after the first plane hit a second plane swiftly appeared with an intended target; the second tower. As bystanders on looked this horrific sight, it then became very evident that this wasn’t an accident and America was under attack. Instantaneously the busy New York City streets became permeated with falling debris from. The pretty clear sky that beamed a morning sky was now a very flush and dark sky with fear in the air. As paramedics and firefighters arrived to the scene they were dismayed with what…

I am sure it happened as easily as this: We were sitting around the garage shooting the bull during a cold winter snap. Thoughts turned to motorcycle rides and things spring and summer. For once, it wasn’t me. Mrs. K was the one to mention going to California. We hadn’t taken a trip the summer before, and she said, “We ought to ride to California and take the PCH along the coast.” Probably, no one jumped up and started packing, but several certainly starting thinking. One mention leads to another mention which leads to final plans. For me, it was a dream I have had since I watched Then Came Bronson and spent my time reading On the Road. For all of us, we researched the trip and found places and things…

Let me start off with my mother's journey to America. It was 1985 when her parents decided it was time for a fresh start. It was very difficult to come to America legally, so they made their journey by traveling to other countries. They left Cuba and traveled to Spain where my grandfather found a job as a farmer. They lived in Spain for almost 2 years before they gathered enough resources to travel to Mexico. The journey from Mexico to the USA was very easy for them because they had a family member who knew their way around. They struggled for many years in America but soon became legal citizens. My mother later on went to college and completed her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Miami. My grandparents purchased the…

I felt this sense of fear, but I knew it was just nervousness. It caused my whole body to tremble. I creeped onto the field and pass by the fifty girls and all of the coaches. Just me walking by everyone gave me this ginormous knot in my stomach, it made me feel like I was going to pass out right on the field. I was breathing heavy, like I just ran a marathon. I was beyond nervous just to be the new girl on the field. I was scared of what the girls thought of me, and how the coaches thought I would play and adapt to the sport. I had never even picked up a lacrosse stick and the girls were passing, catching and shooting on goal: how does a new player get to there if they were two week late into the season? I was terrified I would never get to the level of the rest of the team.…

I have been interested in architecture since I was about 12 years old. I remember staring outside of my living room window, and I would sketch everything in sight - my neighborhood, bright blue skies, and the amazing nature of Hawaii. I was born on October 2nd on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. I must say, that I am so fortunate be able to live in Hawaii because I have witnessed the growth that occurred on the islands as they develop urban areas and expand for their people. Over the past 10 years, there were areas that were previously untamed grass, that are now new suburban neighborhoods, or retail and commercial buildings. The way that the architecture complemented the surrounding environment of Hawaii is what really amazed me. I love…
