This bima holds many l memories for me. 30 years ago I was up here with my family having my bat mitzvah. I have many wonderful memories of that event. My father falling asleep during the Friday night service in the front row. My grandfather, your papa,. always an opinionated guy, not sure if he could come up to the bima and say the torah blessing because he did not believe in god, but letting me know he was proud of me in his own way. And Rabbi Axelrod, a wonderful warm man, welcoming me to the Jewish Community.
I promised you that I would not embarrass you in this blessing. But if anyone had told me 30 years ago that I would be blessed with such a wonderful husband and family, I would not have believed them. And I could not
have imagined that I would have such a courageous, intelligent, vivacious young lady as my daughter. I am so proud of the person you are becoming.
My blessing for you is as follows:
May you continue to be the wonderful person that you are: intelligent, inquisitive, confident, honest and loyal, a great friend and responsible loving sister.
May you continue to have the wonderful ability to say “I love you!” every night. Please never stop saying that.
May you become successful, as you define success, and feel good about your accomplishments.
As you continue to learn and mature, you will find that the world is not always a fair place. Do what you can to make it better. You have tremendous potential to make changes. Do not let others sway you from what you know is right and always believe in your abilities.
We hope you always know that whatever problems you face, you will always have the love and support of your parents and your entire extended family. You have brought more joy and happiness to your father and I that you will ever know by just being yourself and giving us the pleasure of watching you blossom into the beautiful young lady who stands before us today.
Thank you for being one of the brightest lights in my life. I am proud of you and I love you! Maxel tov
