Personal Narrative Essay: Rock Church's Death
I was young then but the memory is fresh in my mind and in the same year a boy whose home was near our school committed suicide by overdose and there was a lot of speculation that it could be due to low self esteem. This guy was very fat and not so good looking and others used to ridicule him but I know we are all made in the image of God and I think either his pals ridiculed him or something like that. Long ago people who killed others according to our custom were thrown in very steep rocks left to die and the hyenas feasted on them. There was no burial ceremony conducted for evil people as they were an abomination.

We were given a lecture by our Deputy Headmaster at Canon Kituri and asked us to compare our lives with a person in a boat. The question was ‘What were we planning with our lives or we were just sailing without oars and without knowing our destination. It was such a powerful message and we were left to digest it for a couple of decades.

The author of The Columbine Legacy Rampage Shootings as Political Acts has stated numerous purposes within this article. The first purpose of it was to explain about the events of Columbine and attempt to show the reader how this has created a large impact resulting in more wide spread school shootings taking place. With this the author tries to convey to the reader particular characteristics that differentiate a school rampage shooting from a wide range of other school related incidents where violence was a factor. The author also attempts to show the reader types of school related shootings that have taken place before Columbine happened and even specific events which would have led to a shooting but were uncovered before it escalated that…

This morning I attended a weekday mass at All Saints Catholic Church. The church itself is relatively large from what I saw. The exterior had many well-tended trees and bushes, with a sign pointing to the office, and a cross about six feet tall out front by a cement walkway which led to the entrance. The building itself was a taupe color with dark brown roofing and glass doors leading at the entrance. As I walked through the glass doors I was not greeted by anyone, so I followed what everyone else was doing. I noticed a holy water font in front of the doors leading directly to the room of worship. I watched as the casually-dressed Parishioners, all aged at least sixty-five years, and mostly white, middle-class women dipped their fingers into the font and then made the sign of the cross, before entering the worship area.…

It was Tuesday, April 20, 1999. It was an exciting day for me in the fourth grade when I turned 9 years old. However, the people of Littleton, Colorado remember that day as something more and definitely less exciting than my birthday was. On April 20, 1999 Littleton Colorado experienced what we now know as the Columbine Massacre. Two seniors at Columbine High School, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold completed this act killing 12 students, 1 teacher, and injured 21 others before committing suicide. Why would anyone want to commit such a horrific crime? Today I am going to talk to you about the boys and their preparations, the massacre itself, and the aftermath.…

After reading the articles and watching the news and hearing others talk about this tragic topic on whether or not the schools, the parents, or media is the issue with school the conclusion is the individual is the one to blame. These individuals had many different resources and options to decide from in order to receive help yet the individuals made the choice to take the lives of innocent people. These children are aware of their consequences and have it set in their mind that there is no other way to let go of their pain but to cause misery and pain to their fellow classmates. Some will still argue that either the school or the parents or the media is the problem, but the individual is to blame because, they are aware of their consequences,…

“For God did not give us the Spirit of fear, but the Spirit of a power, love, and a sound mind”- 2 Timothy 1:7. The Key to confidence is stepping out on faith. I actually gained my confidence by leading my first song in church. Of course I started crying because I was nervous, but then I stopped and I knew that God was with me. There are certain situations when I still get nervous, like playing my first basketball game of the season or even when I’m taking a test, but I’ve learned that if I’ve done everything in my power to succeed, then God will take care of the rest.…

Many people have most definitely heard of the horrifying events of the Columbine High School Massacre. Two shy, bullied, low self-esteemed teenage boys go plant bombs in their school and shoot everyone, right? This is what a majority of people believe and they think the cause behind it has to do with the boys’ clothes, music, and the school jocks and preps bullying them (Rosenburg). This, however, is a misconception. In order for anyone to truly understand what was going on in the minds of these killers, they must first look deeper into the event and know exactly what it is that occurred. They must immerse themselves into the minds of both the murderers and the unfortunate victims. For example, imagine this:…

The Columbine Memorial lies silently in Clement Park, ten minutes’ drive from my aunt’s home. Nine years ago, two students in Columbine High School killed twelve students and a teacher before committing suicide there. Even today, many people regard it as a nightmare and don’t want to talk about it. Unfortunately, this tragedy is not alone, and during the last two decades, numerous school shootings have happened around the whole nation, and hundreds of people have died during the school massacres. Why do so many tragedies happen one after another? We couldn’t avoid the buskins unless we understand the disturbing reasons behind them.…

Another phenomenal and heartening lecture by Ray Bradbury. His words of wisdom transcended people’s mind; making them want to dream again. The lectures and readings itself didn’t only inspire me, as a student to be more engaged and exhilarated by their work, but it also changed their perspective and endowed them with ideas on what it truly means to live.…

Towards the beginning of the school year I took a trip to Greencastle Walmart with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and participated in our local program of handing out fifty $25 Walmart gift cards to families who looked as if they could use some help purchasing school supplies for their kids. We walked around to see different families at the checkouts and asked if we could help pay for their bill. We told them we were with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and received an anonymous donation to help families for school supplies and would like to bless their family. It felt very rewarding to help out families in our own community. Helping to fulfill fifty families needs in one night is something that I will never forget. It has…

Although overall school violence is declining in America, mass shootings in suburban and rural areas are becoming more common ("School" par 1). On April 20, 1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold decided to bring firearms and explosives to Columbine High School to go on a shooting rampage. These two boys, before killing themselves, killed 12 students, one teacher, and wounded 24 others. The cause of this Massacre was violence at the school place, Harris and Klebold were bullied as students and no action was taken when they started talking about killing people or physically hurting people. At the beginning of the school year teachers should give students talks about violence and school shootings. Teachers should tell students that violence is not a joke and it needs to be taken as a serious offence, whether there is going to be a fight at…

Every year that passes there is yet another tragic story of how a beloved child has fallen victim to a school shooting. These horror stories many times have no explanation as to why the school shooting has occurred, leaving us in shellshock. Since the columbine shooting on April 20th, 1999 when thirteen people lost their lives, some due to religious belief, there have been thirty-one school shootings. This is a staggering number of shootings that have resulted in a death toll of 162 victims – not including the Oklahoma City bombing. Thompson tell us that the “school system is trying to prevent school shootings but what they are doing is simply not enough. School shootings have become more deadly and the effort of the schools seems to not have any effect.” (Thompson par. 7) In fact, most people have no idea exactly what the school system is doing to try and stop these school shootings. If the people don’t know what is being done, than there is a good chance that the school system is doing very little to nothing at all.…

Sophomore and junior year I sailed the world, discovering pieces of myself along the journey. With newfound wisdom, I returned to where I had previously anchored myself: Student Board. It looked the same as when I had left it, but I was a new sailor, a seasoned one. My experiences on the seas seemed monumental compared to the ones I had while anchored in this spot. That sophomore storm was no longer a hurricane, but a rain shower; that denial email was no longer a burden, but a…
