What started out as a normal evening of dinner and television, turned into a trip to the emergency room. Let’s just say this was an evening that will not soon be forgotten.
Our weekday dinners are never anything to rave about. Roasted chicken with steamed vegetables was on the menu. The local news was playing in the background. David and I were sitting next to each other on the couch eating our dinner
David looked at me with a mischievous smile and said, “Hey V, watch how I eat this chicken leg.”

I just need to give it sometime. I am not going to the hospital.” I felt helpless. He wasn’t getting better. Googles advice was clearly not working and he didn’t want to go to the hospital. I could not help but sympathize for him. Not wanting to argue, I walked away and left him alone.
Moments later he gave in and said, “I think we should go to the emergency room.”
We quickly gathered our things and made our way to George Washington Hospital. The hospital is about 4 miles from our house, but the drive felt like an eternity due to the excessive traffic lights and stop signs on every block. It felt like we caught every light on the way there, which was convenient for him because he needed to spit at every traffic light.
We were finally close to the hospital and as we approached the Emergency Room he told me, “Pull over immediately!” I pulled over as quickly as I could and parked illegally on the curb in front of the hospital’s emergency room doors. David quickly swung the door open, leaned over and immediately threw up all over the curb. I was embarrassed not for myself but for David.
