“How can writing a paper about one of the most interesting men ever be so difficult?” I whined pathetically. I have all the information, …show more content…
I did the research, but I had tried to write and nothing ever sounded the way I wanted it to. The only words on the page were my name class hour, title, and assignment. “Dinner with Walt Disney…Should be easy…” I sighed looking at the posters of all things Disney. I had posters of Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Daisy, Minnie, all of them really. I even had posters of the Kingdom Hearts game that had been made a few years back. I looked through my notes and saw the designs for a 50’s dress I had drawn when listening to the assignment. It was super cute and I wanted to make it but I didn’t have the material or the time to do it. I closed my laptop and stood up walking over to my bed covered in a Mickey Mouse comforter with Donald and Goofy pillow cases. I fell back with a small bounce and stared at my light gray ceiling. The walls were pastel pink and the floor was carpeted with gray only it was a few shades darker than the paint on the ceiling. I wore a white tank top with a purple off shoulder top that was a bit short on me over top of it, my legs were covered with dark gray skinny jeans and I only wore plain white socks on my feet. I rolled over onto my stomach and felt a sharp jab to my left side. I sat up and saw a small silver key there. It was oddly shaped like Mickey Mouse’s head and I picked it up curiously. It gleamed in the dim light of my room and I laid down again staring at the strange necklace that had suddenly appeared. I had chosen to write about Walt Disney in the first place because he’s the person that inspired me to chase my dreams. When I was little I would have a new dream for my future after I watched one of the many Disney movies out there. Sure my research had picked out every aspect of his life for this paper, but I wanted to meet the man who could make a kid have so many dreams and inspire so many people. Meeting him would be amazing; unfortunately he died a while back making that dream impossible. I sighed sitting up staring at the key.
“Oh well, might as well wear it, it’s cute,” I said placing the long chain around my neck. The key rested over my heart and I smiled feeling a bit better. Then something freaky happened, well, not freaky. It was actually pretty awesome. The key started to glow a bright, pure, white and then a small beam of light shot out at my wall where I didn’t have anything. A hole began to open up but it wasn’t pulling me in, soon a door had formed with a small stamp of the Mickey Mouse head in the middle that was colored gold. I wasn’t afraid of it, a bit shocked I’ll admit but anything with Mickey Mouse on it that was magic couldn’t be harmful. I stood and walked to the door about to place my hand on it when suddenly it opened revealing the small mouse I had adored my entire life. “Howdy!” His chipper high pitched voice sounded and I fell right on my butt from the immense shock I felt. “M-Mickey Mouse…” I said dumbfounded. He laughed and walked over to me. “You must be Paige.” He said and I could only nod. “I see you got the key I sent you.” He said pointing to the key that was still around my neck. “Word is you’re doing an essay on Walt. Come on. I’ll take you to him.” He said and I stood up. We were about to walk through when he stopped me suddenly.
“You’ll need some new clothes. Any ideas in mind? If not I have just the thing.” He said and I grabbed the design for the dress I had drawn in class. “That’ll do.” He said and in a flash of white I was wearing a 50's dress that had thick red straps and was red all the way to the waist, the skirt part was a black with small white polka dots, the belt was white with a small Mickey Mouse head in the middle. On my feet were 2 inch stiletto heels in a bright cherry red color while on my hands were some white gloves that had a red heart on the back of the palm. A jacket also appeared and it was black with a large hood and lined with fake gray fur and it was rather long reaching halfway down the bottom of my dress. So we walked through the doorway and I found myself floating and being pulled by Mickey who seemed able to walk fine. “Since you’re not a cartoon, none of this world is real for you. While it exists, you can’t really function in it. When we get there, the year will be 1959. Remember that a lot of things you have aren’t invented yet so be careful what you say.” He said and I couldn’t resist. I squealed and hugged him making him laugh again. “I can’t believe I’m talking to Mickey Mouse!” I giggled.

“We’re almost there. Prepare yourself. When it’s time for you to go the key will flash” He smiled and I nodded seeing a small light form in front of us and then expand before pulling me away from Mickey and I felt my feet touch ground and I looked around as an office came into view around me. Then I noticed Walt Disney working on some paper work at the large desk in the room. I took a small step and he looked up and smiled. “Mickey said you would be coming. Have a seat. I’ll only be a few minutes then I’ll take you out to dinner.” He said and I nodded taking a seat on the chair in front of his desk. A few minutes later as he said he straightened the papers out and set them in a small box labeled ‘out’ and stood getting his jacket and sliding it on before holding an arm out to me. I stood and took his arm smiling. After a long walk through the building we finally arrived at a limo that waited for him. He let me in first and I looked around shocked. “You seem to be in shock. I can only imagine since you’ve traveled trough time.” He said and I smiled. “I’m just more scared that this might all be a dream.” I admitted and he nodded with a smile. We arrived at a nice restaurant and he escorted me in while someone took our coats, after all he is Walt Disney. We were seated and after ordering our chatting started.
“Where do you come from?” He asked and I smiled. “Cheboygan, Michigan. It’s the tip of the mitt.” I said and he laughed. “Such a small town. What are your dreams?” He asked. “I want to be a fashion designer. My dream is to make it to fashion week in Paris if I can.” I said and he smiled. “Well good luck and don’t give up. Now I’m sure you have thousands of questions.” He said and I nodded. “What’s you biggest accomplishment for this decade?” I asked and he laughed. “When Disneyland Park opened 4 years ago. 17 million dollars and we even had my own personal insurance mortgaged. I can’t described what an accomplishment it was to make it to that point.” He said and I smiled nodding. “I wish I could go. My family doesn’t exactly have the time or money though. But anyways, what do feel that your biggest accomplishment is for this decade?” I asked and he smiled. “Creating a place where everyone can be a kid even if only for a moment. Everyone has a child inside of their hearts and I want Disneyland to bring that out in everyone who goes no matter how old or young.” He said and I felt my admiration for him grow. We continued talking for about and hour as we ate and it was comfortable. I didn’t feel out of place at all even though I was 53 years in the past. We continued talking and all too soon we were back in the limo and the key on my necklace started to glow.
“Looks like it's time for you to head home then?” He asked and I smiled.
“I suppose so but I'll treasure today. It's something I'll never forget.” I said and was floating in a world of color and I realized I was back in the cartoon world. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy came walking up and I smiled.
“Time to head home then.” I said and Mickey took my hand.
“That necklace can call us at anytime. While seeing Walt was a one time thing you can always count on us to be there.” Goofy said and I smiled.
“Thanks I'll treasure this gift for the rest of my life.” I said and minutes later I found myself back in my room wearing my old clothes and sitting on my bed.
I smiled and rushed over to my computer beginning to type furiously. I had everything I needed now.
